Hi , I am trying to repair my brothers GS1200. Turns out he bought one and the sound was no good. Turns out the plate which holds the heads in position were messed with and had no screws except one, and that one was ruined. The holes for the screws are all messed up, I need this part WITH screws so I can replace. ANY help?
Yrs, Rob

Robert, I would give Leon Norris a call, he carries quite a few spare parts for the GS.

Robert,
Leon's number is 610-275-1225
The plate part you require is shown as part 6 in fig 18 page 41 of the service manual.
The screws are also shown in this figure as 2, 4 and 6. Seems like there is a mistake in the manual here, but I'm sure Leon will send you what you need.

But to repair it it's easy!
You have to re-make the path screw by a "path screw male tool" (help...what's the right word in english?)
Of course you have to use a tool a little bit bigger than the original holes (and of course you'll have to change the screws)

Never say "die".
(...because I think the word you're looking for is "tap".)

Spinal Tap?
I agree with Ugo, creating new threads and using slightly larger screws + washers must be the fastest route.
These go to eleven

What would I require to do such work? Just bigger screws? not sure. I WISH I was not simply an artist, and more electronic knowledgeable.

Well,
You'd need to find the next size larger screw, and somebody with a tap and die set that includes the tap of that size. You could buy one yourself in a lot of places, but the question is how much is it worth for a one time use.
Do you have a friend that's a machinist or an auto mechanic? You need to find somebody that either makes threads or damages them on a regular basis.
You may even consider going to a machine shop and weighing their cost to re-tap against what it costs to replace the part.

Robert, it may cost you a lot more to buy taps etc than to just buy the replacement part. I would certainly give Leon a call first to get the cost of the part.

It can be fun and games setting the heads up again.
Make sure you have downloaded a copy of the service manual off of the forum under the manuals section and then follow the instructions to the letter.
