Here are the photographs you requested Edwin to enable you to hopefully 3D print some of these for anyone needing them for Long Play Units etc:-

The wall thickness of the flanges is 2.5mm each.
Central bore diameter = 4.5mm (clearance hole for M4 Bolt).

The hole is counterbored to accept the head of the bolt but this is not essential to the tracking of the roller I have found, therefore the counterboring is optional rather than a definite requirement of the component.

Hope these can now go ahead and be be manufactured Edwin Thanks.

It would be extremely useful if Edwin could produce similar rollers for 9.5mm, and for 16mm, films.

I think he already has made the 16mm ones Maurice. It is from seeing those that I requested the 8mm ones.

Edwin explained to me that he didn't have anything to model these 8mm on which brought about my post on this to begin with.

If you already have one 9.5 roller you could do a similar thing Maurice so he can make you and other collectors more of them.

I have two Eiki/Elf 9.5mm projectors each capable of holding 2000 feet spools so I don't need a long-play unit.
A few of my features are on the large Spanish spools which you mentioned recently.
I am considering adding extra rollers to my two Son projectors to improve the film path.

Thanks, Maurice. I have some 9.5 films that cannot be mounted on 2000 ft spools, so I was wondering if a long play unit in 9.5 had ever existed. Larger 9.5 spools can be made (not the cans)but as Julio Castells is moving in another business the decision to order them must be taken quickly. Hence my previous question.

In the 50s at least two firms made non-stop systems for 16mm. They were mainly designed for mobile operators.

I had one which comprised a stand (on which the projector stood), a feed arm which fitted into a hole and was above the projector. Below was a similar take-up arm which was operated by a 110 volt motor with variable speed and a slipping clutch. I was using an American Bell & Howell at the time and the transformer provided the necessary supply. It all came with two 6000 feet spools which were enough for a double feature.

Much later there was an English company who were called Spondon who sold long-play devices, but I cannot find anything on them. I wouldn't have kept any brochures as at the time it would not have been of any interest to me.

Until recently Eiki sold a stand-alone device for large spools.

No doubt all could have been modified for 9.5mm but the problem would have been spools. Some spools could be dismantled and the core reduced in width and all then reassembled.

I am sure that nothing was made exclusively for 9.5mm. Until the Eiki/Elf conversions arrived the largest spool was the 900 feet which was used for Pathescope features.

Maurice, I have a super 8 Spondon long play unit that works fine but that I don't want to modify. There is a possibility to use a 16 mm long play unit with 16 to 9.5 adaptator but these machines are expensive and take a lot of room so it is not the best option (although it seems there is no other other option at all). The best solution would have been to make reels with a smaller core (like for the Supaspools) but the small cores are out of stock and Julio Castells told me that he cannot order them for small quantities ; he was talking about 500 pièces minimum and as he said he would never sell so many reels. What's more, as already said, he's moving in another business so certainly not a good time for a very long term invest. So far, I haven't found any easy and not too expensive (I don't dare to say cheap) way.

The Eiki long-play unit is relatively small and takes up little room (except, of course, with 6000 ft spools.)
Far better to have a two projector set-up.

I didn't know this model. I should consodering one. Do you have any idea of the price range ? From the picture, it looks however that the system to put a reel is different from the one used on the Eiki projectors. The 16 to 9.5 adaptators manufactured by Edwin wouldn't work in that case.

Regrettably it is not included on an old Eiki price list which I have.
As the spools are retained by a large screw-on locking wheel, it is impossible to see what the spindles look like.

Thanks to your link, Maurice, I discussed this (by e-mail) with a Belgian collector who has such a long play unit (he told me it is good but hard to find). I will ask him about the spindles.
