Here's another cut down from the golden days of super8;and very nice it is too.
After the main title,we are still in the USA,as another high priest
played by John Carrdine,burns some tana leaves.H is mission of course,is to get the attention of Khairs(Lon Chaney jr).
The Mummy himself,comes across a farm.The dog,barks madly,and the owner,armed with a rife,enters the barn.A shot is heared,and his wife,runs down to the barn to investagate.
She finds her husband dead.
The newspapers are thenflased across;Khairs,meanwhile,finds the high preist,and drinks the tana fliud.
We then cut to a collage,and its here we are introduced,to the other two main leads..Tom harvey(Robert Lowery);and his girlfreind Ameana(Ramsey Amos).
Meanwhile,both the high priest and the mummy,gain entry to the museum,for here lies the remains of Anaka.
Khairs,seems delighted,for his search is ending,he puts his hand on the remaims,and pulls back.There's nothing there,just warppings.
Unbeknown to them,however,Amaena,lets out a cry,at the same moment.The search is not over yet!
The high preist prays for guideance,and the mummy,heads off,once again,to find his beloved.
This is succesful,because the young Anmea,falls at Khairs feet.
The mummy carries her back to their hideout..were Carrdine is waiting,to perform the final rites.However on seeing this beauiful girl,he decides he wants her for himself.
Kharis,flips,and while Carrdine pleads for his life,the mummy pushes him out of the window,were he falls to his death!.
Now the local police,and boyfreind give chase.The mummy,with the girl in his arms,now ageing,rapdily,leads the mob into a swamp.
Tom cries after her,as we witness,both the mummy and girl,disappear under the murky waters.
Anice two reeler,which will please all horror movie buffs,this has good print,and on my copy fair sound.
The editing,is good,not as good as tomb,but then what was;if you love those old universal b/ws;then go for it.enjoyable.Andy.

very nice andrew ! Its my one of my best mummy film of the entire series! specialy lets not forget at the end, (which not too many universal monsters film have is you first have the favorite universal music in the background and than (george zucco say !! The faith of those who defied the will of ancient god! Shall it be a cruel and violent DEAD!!!!!! Love those word, great movie, my print it alright too, I thing since whe have to take into considerations that they are nice dupe, its not too bad, phil

Funny is'nt Phil.Old Zucco is not in the cut down,yet you hear his voice at the end.Good cut down though.Thats why i've raved about those old universal/castle cut downs..i just love them.Andy.

Just got this 400'er from Derann and after watching it I noticed that there's a scene on the 200'er that's not included. The lengthy scene where the hero and reincarnated princess are in the car on a date and she gets spooked by the approaching Mummy isn't in my 17 minute version... there may be other things missing that I haven't noticed yet. But that would be a good scene to splice in... I like this film much better than The Mummy's Tomb. For some reason, I could never stay awake through the 400' version of Tomb, so I sold it... keeping just the 200' version. Ghost is much more interesting with the Princess aging as she is carried into the swamp... very cool.

I have the 200'er, but now I definitely want this one. BTW, does everyone here agree that the 200'er of the 1932 "Mummy" is actually in some ways superior to its 400' counterpart. It seems, from some forum comments, that the consensus is that the 400'er simply contains elongated scenes that already exist in the 200' version, but don't really add much. I always see this baby going for over $100 and have to weigh if it's truly worth it.

I would say its probably true that most of the 200 footers are more well edited than the 400 footers, when it comes to the classic Universal horror movies. I think it really comes down to the skills of each editor. Those 200 foot castles are some of the most well edited digests I've ever seen.

However, one exeption is "Dracula", because the whole Transylvania scene is missing from the 200 foot version, where as the 400 footer does contain those essential early scenes from the feature.

This is indeed in the top ten of all of the Universal Eight 400' digests. The Mummy's Tomb is also very good.

I think I'll re-watch both of them tonight.

In many ways, I believe these 400' TOMB/GHOST digests are better than the features themselves. Seventeen minutes is just about right for these two films -- the 60-/70-minute Mummy sequels got a little ponderous at times.

Received the 400' digest of THE MUMMY'S GHOST in the mail yesterday, and someone had spliced in two scenes from the 200' version that weren't included in the longer edit. Nice. The sound is much louder on the 200' footage, but no complaints here!

The Mummy was always my most favorite Universal monster, not sure why when he's the least favorite of most.

I never had (though wanted) the 400ft. editions. I always figured they'd work well condensed as the sequels were quite short to begin with and padded with a lot of flashbacks anyway.

The Mummy's Curse never made it to 8mm (that I know of), and next to the swamp scene at the end of Ghost, Princess Ananka's under-cranked resurrection from the dried bog, is one of niftiest sequences in Universal's 40s monster outings.

Feature length prints of "The Mummy's Curse" are out there as I have one myself. They are mounted on 2X600ft reels.
