Rear Window (1954) Starring: James Stewart, Grace Kelly, Thelma Ritter, Wendell Corey, Raymond Burr. Directed by Alfred Hitchcock

The Plot: A photographer, his leg in a cast up to his waist, is confined to a wheelchair in his tiny apartment where between visits from an insurance nurse and his high-society lady friend he passes his time watching his neighbors through his apartment window. He becomes increasingly convinced that one neighbor in particular has murdered his wife, and is in the process of disposing of the body and the evidence.

The Print: The print is mounted on 6 X 400' reels/spools. The poly stock is striped with a single magnetic audio track. This print is visually striking from the first frame of the opening credits right through the final fade-out. The source used is a print from the post 1983 re-release era and opens with the Universal Pictures logo. All the daylight scenes are richly saturated with color and the Night sequences come off well with good contrast and fine detail, this being paramount during the film's climax. The image throughout the print is very sharp ; overall the print picture would rate an "A". The print's audio track is outstanding in dynamic range, fidelity and clarity. The sync stays spot-on, and plays "noise" free for the film's duration. This too rates an "A".
After 2 screenings thus far there has been nothing to criticize,
other than the expected wear at the reel change points. This Film has always been one of Hitchcock's highest praised works,
and praise goes out to Steve Osborne and The Reel Image for producing such a gem of a print.

Thank you Osi and Tom for your comments. Tom, I read somewhere here a list you had put together of all Your prints. It was staggering! When I got back into collecting last year, I Started with Hitchcock. North By Northwest from a forum Member, Vertigo from Steve, Suspicion from Paul Foster, Spellbound from eBay and now Rear Window From Steve. I have feelers out for the CHC release of Psycho so if anyone reading this has one to move on please contact me. My small collection has grown and I am proud of the gems I have acquired, many by belonging to this very Forum. For that I am thankful.

would i be correct in saying that all new printed films are now on low fade stock?

Tom, I trust it is but there are no edge markings detected. I am unable to confirm
What stock is used. I will look into it with Steve and reply promptly.

Michael, it truly is. Tom, It was confirmed by Steve the lab is only using Low Fade stock for the new prints.
