How do I care for a scratched
removable pressure plate on the
Eiki 3585?
It is scratched slighly on the bottom
next to the cut out, on the sprocket
side, and slightly toward the top on the
same side where it is highly polished.
I am more concerned down at the bottom
where that small notch in the plate
is located. When you rub your finger
nail over it, it feels course.
Someone advised me to use 600 grit
with water silicon carbide paper to smooth
it over.
Is this advisable? Or should I search for
a new plate?

Your best bet is to try and find a replacement. Without pulling the books, I think that the 3585/ssl/snt can all use the same part so if you find a "junker" acquire it for parts.
If not, I'd just a buffing wheel in a dremel (the white cotton one) with the red polishing rouge to remove any "rough" edges.
One of these days we'll all be collecting old pressure plates to send them off as a group and have them replated with hard chrome--but that's in the future.

Hi John,
Thanks for the heads-up.
Using the rouge and a buffing wheel is the best
technique to try out first.
The old junker for parts is the next
alternative.
Who knows if this gets taken
to the chrome plate level in the future?
But as hobbyists, one can never tell.
I'll let you know how the rouge and buffing
works out.
