Just took delivery of my Elmo 16-CL at lunchtime today.

Well!! What can I say. Now I know why everyone raves about them. Easy to thread, whisper quiet etc. etc. I could go on and on, but those of you who already have one, or several, will know what I am talking about. It is the later version with the toothed belt drive for the take-up spool and metal spindles.

I just want to thank those of you who encouraged me to opt for one of these machines.

A thorough clean and service, and I shall enjoy some movies over the weekend. (Still love my Ampros though).

For those wondering about this...The exciter lamp doesn't work. This is normally caused by dry joins round the wirewound resistors in the exciter circuit.

Mine came from Iowa in the US. It was $140 (£70). Quite a bargain, I reckon.

All is now well. Dry joint indeed, but on the rectifier, not the resistor this time. Many thanks for the help and advice in pointing me in the right direction.
