I have purchased several films on cores recently, and am wondering what members use for transferring to standard reels.

I have made up some arbors and flanges for fitting to my rewinds, which prevent the film from "falling off" the cores, but I wonder if there is any proprietary device for achieving the same thing.

Hi David,
I use split reels for doing this, they are purpose made to take the cores and prevent the film from spilling out,..Mark.

Thanks Mark. [Big Grin] I thought there had to be a simple answer, but wasn't too sure how the split reels worked. If as you say, they are designed to accommodate the cores and locate them centrally, then I'll locate some and give it a go.

Cheers.

David,

I have a 1200ft split reel for sale. It should hold 1600ft with the smaller core - though I've not tried this. Its an ex-BBC reel in excellent condition.

£14.99 plus p&p

Hi Kev,

She's purring like a kitten. Had a look inside and seems a bit bereft of lubricant. No mad rush to do anything just yet, but I will give her a lube job at some point.

Look forward to seeing you at Ealing.
