Hi,

I am only collecting with super 8mm films and my films are mostly digest (on 400").

I just got an offer from someone who has some 16mm western movies spooled on 7" reel. Each titles has only 1 reel. I didn't think that those reels are trailers, because it would be to long for 7" inch reels. So:

1. Is it possible, those reels are 16mm digests (like what we have in 8mm)?
2. What is the duration for a full 16mm on 7" reels?

thanks

Winbert, a 7 inch spool with small hub will hold 400ft of 16mm film. That's roughly 8 minutes. A lot of short subjects were available on these 16mm "one-reelers", from Castle Films, for instance. Here, several Film Office titles (mostly comedies by Chaplin, L&H, etc.) were available in this format.

And, as far as cut downs are concerned, some of the Castle/Universal 400ft titles were available in 16mm as 800ft digests.

Winbert, you can also get the Castle 8mm 200' digests as 400' 16mm prints.

I have Bride of Frankenstein, Dracula (Lugosi), The Mummy (Karloff) and several Abbott & Costello as 400' 16mm prints. I recently sold a few Hopalong Cassidy prints too.
