I'd be very grateful if John (or any Eiki experts) could comment on the following. I have a SSL-2 that I obtained in mint, virtually unused condition a few years ago. It basically works OK but there are two minor 'niggles':

a) One problem that emerged was that the roller that springs up to make the upper loop, when you turn the function switch, stopped doing so. I have the service manual and found the arm that slides against the plate spring had become loose and I basically fixed the problem, although it was difficult getting the arm into what seemed to be exactly the correct position. However, if I haven't used the projector for about a day or more, it is common for the roller to still not spring up the FIRST time I move the control switch, although it usually does every other time. I don't know if this could be due to the grease, although I made sure that some grease was applied here. I've also found that if the film is applying even slight downwards pressure on the roller, after threading, this can also prevent it from springing up, so I wondered if this is normal? It's such a minor problem that it's tempting to ignore it and simply move the switch twice the first time, but it would be good to see everything functioning properly.

b) This is another minor problem that I also had with a SL I used to own, so maybe it's a common thing with Eikis. The rewind basically works fine but every so often, when you put the function switch into the rewind position, it seems to meet an obstruction. If you apply a bit of extra pressure, it 'clicks' past the obstruction and then rewinds. This probably happens about once in every 6-8 rewinds. Is there some sort of readjustment that I can make that would make it always work smoothly? My experience of Eiki switches has caused me to much prefer the type used on the ENT.

Lack of, or too much grease or oil. Check all moving parts and then some.
You probably did this already. Old grease drys up. and causes hair balls that stick the switch

Richard - thanks for your reply. I can't recall if I applied some new grease or made sure that some of the old grease was there, but I'll look into it and consider using some new grease. The exasperating thing is that it's a 'delayed action' problem, in that everything can seem fine when you're working on it, and then a few days later the roller is slightly 'stuck' again!
