I recently got an Eiki Super Slot Load 2 and love it, but occasionally there are issues with the control knob. I'll crank it to play/lamp on and nothing happens. I'll turn it to off and then back to play again, eventually it will kick in and run right. Sometimes I also have to do this to rewind a film. Is the knob loose or is there something I can do to fix this? Thanks

The main knob on an SSL actually controls a complicated combination of mechanical linkages and micro switches. You should get a manual before messing with the alignment, but it sounds like a mechanical linkage either worn or out of alignment.

is there contacts behind there? would using contact cleaner or a can of air help clean the contacts? I have 2 of these and have not had a problem yet.

There are a series of closed microswitches behind the knob operated by a cam wheel and are not very easy to get to. Contact cleaner will do little to cure the issue.

Is there any excessive play in the knob?

When you say loose, do you mean there is play when you either try to rock the knob side to side or up and down, or rotational play? The Eiki SL II I have here on my bench, there is no lateral side to side or up/down play and no rotational play.

You can check and tighten rotational play if the knob is loose on the shaft by rotating the knob fully to rewind (9 oclock position). There will be an access to a phillips holding screw looking from the front of the machine. Using an appropriate screwdriver, check to see if the holding screw is tight.

Hey John, Yes, when the knob is in the stop position it will wiggle loosely rotationally, but won't go to the next control. I turned it to the 9 position to see the access to the screw to tighten it, but had no luck. Are you referring to the screws that hold the face that covers the knob and volume/mic controls? Hi Scott. It sure sounds as though the knob tightening screw is loose. There should be an access opening with the knob fully rotated to rewind. You may have to use a flash light to see the head of the screw as it is a good 3/4 to 1" recessed, but it is there.

Hi Scott here is what you need to look for
rotate you knob like the picture 1, on the front you should see a half moon opening picture 2, unscrew the small screw inside that opening, take off knob and see where the flat edge is on your shaft it should be where the screw was if you you will have to move it to that position picture 3 while you have the knob off check the shaft for any movement.

It fixed the loose play on the dial, but I'll find out tomorrow if it clears up the delay in occasionally playing and rewinding. Just got a print in the mail so I'll test it out. Thanks

At the moment, it seems to have fixed the issue.
