howdy all

I was wondering if anybody knew of any type of paint that would not damage film. i need to repaint some of my reels and cans before rust sets in. i know that new plastic ones are pretty cheap but i am currently pretty broke, so that's out.

thanks. [Smile]

Many years ago I had four steel 16mm reels that were in poor condition.

My solution was to use some fine grade emery cloth to remove any rust marks and proved a key for the paint.

I then washed it in hot water with a little soap to remove any grease and dirt. I then rinsed it and shook the excess water off and dried it with an hair dryer.

The next stage was to start painting. I used grey car primer to apply a couple of coats. Then red car enamel paint for the final coats, I let them dry for about 48 hours between each coat. I also left them for a few weeks before putting any film on them.

They have stood the test of time.

HI Dave

I used the cheapest enamel paint and it worked out fine!

Pasquale It was 'Holts' paint I think? but from a shop that was moving old stock very cheap. So I bought some, never know when it would be used though.

Would powdercoating work?

Some old 6000ft reels I got from Spondon Films before they closed down were powder coated in black. Would this be a DIY job though?
