The sale recently of some 16mm Walton digests on the Forum reminded me to look out my 1969 Walton catalogue. It contains 18 titles that were available on 16mm optical sound. Here is the full list to enable collectors to look out for some rare items.

Films are 1 reel (400') black & white, unless otherwise stated.

As I said, they are all black and white, however, I have a copy of "Fowl Play" in colour by the later type Kodachrome (b/w sound track). It's a delightful 1950 British cartoon by Anson Dyer, and produced by Halas & Batchelor. A fox tells how he got into his present plight, which seems to consist of sitting in an armchair floating in a river.

It would be interesting to know how long Walton issued 16mm films and whether any other titles were in colour.

By 1971 lots of these have disappeared.

Maurice, any idea when Walton stopped producing their own exclusive films. I have a 16mm copy of the Queen's visit to New Zealand, which is about 1954. Looks as professional as Movietone. It is a silent film, and was shot at 16fps. The only colour title I know of is The Coronation, which was filmed in Kodachrome.

Hello Maurice, you probably know that there is some info about Walton Films on Grahame Newnham's site. A son of one of the founders started a site a year or more back, but it never progressed beyond the home page. Someone mentioned Tim's Walton site; I have no idea who Tim is, and I couldn't find a link to any site.

P.S. This links to the info on Grahame's site, and lists colour releases. Newnham states that the 9.5mm films were reperforated from 16mm prints. http://www.pathefilm.freeserve.co.uk/95flmcat/95flmcatwalt.htm

Interesting thread - I had no idea Walton produced any 16mm releases that were longer than one reel.

Note also that Walton sold a range of glamour films on 16mm - very tasteful material that would normally feature ladies in bikinis, beauty contests, etc. Some were available in colour. Perhaps all their 8mm releases of this kind were also available on 16mm. I expect some of their travelogue-type material was also sold on 16mm.

Yes a very rare title I only have three copies myself.

BTW Walton did indeed issue a number of their Travelogue titles in 16mm i.e. "The Azure Coast" which was available in various versions including 400ft kodachrome sound.
