I just bought a Singer Instaload XL pretty cheap because I really needed another projector (no I didn't)...lol.

Anyone have experience with these machines? It is Singer's take on a open path/slot load design. I noticed that this projector is very large compared to the Eiki SSL and Elmo 16-CL machines I have. But, it seems kind to film, has a great focus and super sharp picture (I didn't expect that). I also noticed that the auto loop restorer is a little more sensitive than I would like (when the restorer intervenes you get that classic sound warble (wow and flutter) and picture jump for a second or so). But other than that and it being a tad unconventional in operation and size, its a nice machine with a metal gate, 3 blade shutter, and 2 speakers in the case.

Any thing I need to watch out for with this model?

Hi James, I have one like this, one of the best feature is on the audio level the sound is very good and very dynamic. the projector sports 2 (4 inches twin speakers) compared to Bell and Howell. I am not too crasy about slot features but Its an overall good projector. this model is almost the same as the GRAFLEX by singer.

enjoy.

Thanks Michel!
I did notice the very dynamic sound--it took me a while to get used to the tone control. However, it lost the exciter lamp Friday. Never had one of those fail on me. I think all my other 16mm models use a BRK lamp, whereas this one uses a BSW exciter lamp. I noted that the socket still had power, so I'm waiting to receive a new bulb.

The BSW exciter lamp was bad. I put the new lamp in tonight, works great!
