Here was My troubles
a forum member sent me this Important notice:
All of the 500 series projectors with tube amplifiers have a hidden power safety interlock/cutoff switch inside. The rear cover has a particular screw hole that takes the longest screw (I think it was either a 3/4" long or 5/8" long one) screwed in all the way in that hole to trip that hidden power switch. It turns on the power to the entire machine. When people take off the rear cover or the screw isn't turned all the way in, the power is shut off to the projector. It was a legal requirement by Underwriter's Laboratories at the time. Bell & Howell had to include that switch in order to be UL listed.

I have a Bell & Howell 535.
The instruction book says: "There is no fuse in the Filmosound. The amplifier circuit is protected with a resistor that will burn out only in case of component failure. This resistor will protect the amplifier from fire, etc., if the resistor burns out, this an indication that the amplifier should be checked thoroughly."
There is no particular comment about general loss of power.

I am not familiar with that model projector, but with many others, I have found that the failure of caps and/or tubes in the amp would not cause the projector motor and other non-amplifier components to not work.
