I returned an Eiki 16mm projector as the sound was faulty, the replacement Eiki now plays films but the picture bounces up and down badly at the start of the reel and settles down as the film plays but there is still an up and down motion. The films I have played worked fine on the previous projector so i know it is not sprocket damage, can anyone suggest what is happening?

Phillip, it will almost certainly be cam wear issue or claw wear or a penetration issue or some combination of all three.
Are you prepared to try and adjust or repair it?

Hi Andrew thanks for your help, but David is indeed correct, I have not been looping the film correctly, I feel stupid that is why I have asked the administrators to delete this post.
I really thought my treasured print of The Last Crusade was damaged but it runs as steady as a rock now. A lesson learned.

Well done David. The master of 16mm. Different ball game evidently to those in 8mm land.

Phillip, all these new traits have to be learned at some point, no need to delete, experience teaches us everything and as said, David is the man for 16mm.

Lots of other great resources here also for the gauge from what I read.
Maurice has fantastic knowledge across them all!
