For years my wife has classed me as a nurd for collecting films, she's complained about the noise of my projectors and even taken offence at my puffer brush that I clean my film gate with. But on Saturday night she changed her opinion. Her favourite film is The Champ, so a few months ago I purchased a stunning print from David Guest. I set up my screen in the garden and we invited the neighbours round for our first outdoor screening.
I projected the film through the glass patio doors so the projector could not be heard and and they all sat back with a beer in hand and a bowl of pop corn. By the end of the film everyone said they had loved the whole experience and are now desperate for another outdoor screening. I posted some photos on Facebook and the reaction has been amazing, so many people have said how "cool" it looks and they now want to come too.
I really don't know how I will fit them all in the garden. I'm thinking of doing a screening on halloween but I don't have any horror films, If any forum members have Halloween, scope 16mm or The fog, scope 16mm I would be very interested in purchasing them. I am also after the old Pearl and Dean intro on 16mm or super 8 and any old Cinema Commercials.

phillip looks great. i did exactly the same as you two years ago and two lots of neighbours came banging on my front door complaining about the noise. i hadnt got it really loud. messed up the whole evening and the show. real miserable buggers round here, always have been. anyway glad your evening was a success, and carry on. best.

Looks great Phillip. I think our film equipment comes into its own when your are able to put on a larger show outdoors to a captive audience.

As you say. Even better if you can shun the noise out altogether on the larger gauges.

Delighted to hear it went so well but I have to agree with David that outdoor shows are a risky business, as so many evenings are liable to be too cold, windy or wet. That tripod screen looks very big - how wide is it? Was it a standard or Xenon projector? Looks like a long throw so presumably you didn't use a 50mm lens?

I think outdoor film shows are like BBQ's, you can't plan them ahead. you just have to do them if you have a nice day. I got around the neighbours complaining about the noise by inviting them round. I have a 6ft screen and I did use a 50mm lens, the picture was amazing, really bright and colourful.
