Just an odd observation i noticed with my own Eiki.
Currently, i use super lube but i also purchased molycote 33.

What i have noticed is this, i have used my Elf for around 20 features, when i took a look inside the other day the worm gear looks almost dry as if the grease has vanished. using my finger and a brush i put another application on as this is one part of the projector that obviously needs to be well greased. The service book states to check approx every 500 hours of use so to me this is a bit odd.
Theres no point in over greasing otherwise it just get thrown around the inside and makes a mess.
I have not as yet tried the molycote 33 on it so i dont know if this sticks to the parts any better. Whats your experience with this please?

I have been using this for many years
In servicing projectors with no problems in its use.
Great stuff it lasts
I get a few back that i serviced and repaired
i got back one after 3 years and the grease was still there

I just use multi purpose grease after cleaning up any new projector I buy,I just use a cotton bud to apply it and never put too much on as it will fly off everywhere as you say. I definitely would like to try the synthetic grease though if it does a better job,I've seen hardened grease over the years and how it can make a machine perform noisily but not what I've applied so far,Mark

Tom if my memory is correct i am sure Bill Parsons used Molycote 33 grease too on projector gears and other parts. [Smile]

I use Molykote DX. This is only on 16mm machines, as directed by the late Hugh Bell from Sound & Screen Service. But it does last ages once applied.

I've just checked the lubrication guide on the Eiki SSL/ESL Service manual and it shows these six different lubricants:
Silicone Grease
Molybdenum Disfulfide Grease
Silicone Oil #10
Silicone Oil #100
Silicone Oil #1000
Petroleum Oil

I don't suppose the few remaining service/repair experts would use quite so many now. I'm sure some of us would find it extremely useful to know what readily available products experts such as Richard would use today, on the parts for which the above lubricants are proposed. I presume the above-mentioned greases would be fine in relation to the top two of the above list?
