As the title says, been offered an EX-1500. Needs a belt set (available on eBay). Most importantly the lamp strikes on first attempt and looks good. Think it's worth it for a Xenon 16mm?

As I said elsewhere about this model, it's quite compact and I worked with one in a Classic Mini Cinema in the 70s. And it's magnetic playback as well.
If you can see it working it certainly sounds an acceptable price, however, not sure about the availability and cost of replacement xenon lamps.

The only thing I would weigh up stuart is does it give off much ozone when running. some do some don`t from what I hear.

If it does I wouldn`t use it around the children.

I suppose it depends how much you will run it as well.

My eldest has asthma so I avoided them myself.

I had one for two or three years. I only tried it out when I first got it. It was so large, I had to store it in the basement. But because of its weight and size it never came out again.... So, I sold it and I heard later from the guy who bought it, that the same thing happened to him! So, after a few years he sold it on too. I think the machine is fine (although I heard it is difficult to find spare parts for it), but I would only consider it if I had a permanent place to put it.

It is a beast, Rob but I've found it hard to find a xenon at a reasonable price. My 16CL Xenon is knackered beyond hope needing a motor and electronics, so a £200 punt on this was worth it. Yes it's a bit big but so was my old EX-2000. I wonder if a more discrete rectifier could be built using modern tech?

You can't really go wrong for £200. So, well done for getting it! A small rectifier would certainly be an improvement, but the projector itself is a bit of a monster too...

I just saw a Hokushin Xenon machine on a site in the Netherlands. The Halogen versions have this fantastic threading mechanism:

I don't know if the Xenons are the same in that respect, but they are intriguing machines. This one was a bit expensive though (€550) and had a crack in its worm gear. So, a no for now, but I'm sure if I see one going for a reasonable price, I won't be able to resist....

You probably saw it Rob but there was one of those Xenon Hokushins on eBay for AGES, but the autoload feature had been removed, seller was still asking something like £800 for it! Anyway, I'm waiting by the letterbox in the hope my belts arrive today!
