As an option to replace a xenon lamp, would I be better looking at an HID bulb or an MSD?

Colin
Perhaps some more information would be useful, such as what make/model projector, and present lamp used.

Hello Maurice, I have converted my xenon lamphouse to using a 36v 400w halogen with the help of Graham Ritchie. This lamp is quite good. I have noticed the rise in popularity of the HID which I believe you have converted. Also of interest is the HSD which looks like a mini xenon. I have been advised to be careful where I source the ballast because some of the cheaper ones overheat. I fancy trying the Philips HSD 200/250 but need to find a good ballast to go with it. Also the ballast you use is I believe no longer available. It would be useful to find a supplier which can supply both. The HSD could also be used in Elf machines I would have thought. Sorry if I'm rambling!

Colin
You still haven't said what projector/model you are using. Is it a 16mm or perhaps 35mm?

Sorry Maurice, it's 35mm.

Thank you, Colin
35mm is out of my realm. Sorry.
Last worked at Odeon Weston-super-Mare 4-screen in 2001.
Worked from 1952 for Odeon, first carbon arcs, then Xenon. At one period our mini cinema had an Eiki EX-1500 16mm Xenon with 6000ft long play attachment.
I never had to change a Xenon, that was the Chief's job!

Come and see a projector that has been converted to HID being used this weekend at Big Screen Time.
