Hi Paul, well most have 3 or 4 claws and handle film very well.

But changing the belt can be a going on I hear.

You need to run/hear/see/check one in person really as they vary wildly from very quiet and nice to loud as heck and grim, they can also scratch as well sometimes.

Some also run like clock work some very far from that noise asside.

But fantastic picture and rock steady etc.

P7`s have a brushless motor and P8`s an electronic one.( brushed ).

Plastic gate on the forward/lens side.

Very fast rewind if working OK, sometimes a bit too fast and severe maybe even.

If you can pick up a nice one cheap enough very well worth a punt.

Take the same lens as an eiki but focusing is far far better and finer/sharper etc wth a holder/sleeve that moves backwards and forwards if you will with the 42.5mm lens in it.

A little used and quiet P8 is often the best bet and some were made quite late on too.

Best Mark.

When Rank's 25 year contract with Bell & Howell terminated they turned to Bauer for their supplies and the result is the Rank Aldis.
I have two, a early three claw model with the small A1/233 lamp, and a later model which uses the A1/259, this model has four claws and also a still function.
The lamp has two settings, the lower setting is quite OK for home use and it means that the lamps have quite a long life.
The projectors are very quiet in operation.
