Hi all,

Searching on eBay, i found this sell (the sell is not over yet):

Halloween

This print seems pretty red for me. I not aware if this copy is rare, but it's difficult for me to pay this amount of money for a red copy of a movie even if it's a good movie.

Have you found other unexplicable sells like this ? I'm pretty curious to know how people can get mad.

Pierre, there are so many on ebay all the time.
There is a Dracula 400ft scope print with a start price of over £500. Take a look at the ebay oddities on here. It's simply mad.

Saying it's "difficult" to pay such an amount is an understatement, and there are plenty of lines as well as the degree of fade. The only other faded 16mm print I can recall seeing sell for a similar amount - with the possible exception of Star Wars films - was 'The Texas Chainsaw Massacre', which was a rare print with the original Bryanston Distributors logo at the start. 'Halloween' in scope, however, is exactly the sort of title that I'd expect to go for well above average, although I'd have been more than happy with $300 if I was the seller!

Yes they did Osi. I’ve been in market for one for awhile.

Going back to that 16mm print of Halloween, not only was it red but the listing mentioned that it had jump cuts! Now I can accept a film if its turning pink or red especially if it’s a title I’ve been after for years but I just can’t stand jump cuts. Especially if it’s during an action sequence, or worse, a dialogue sequence.
If I remember correctly it just stated jump cuts where in there but it did not specify where.

I think there is two type of person collecting films:

- The persons who collect film on purpose to look at them or to make projection for other, like me. It's difficult to showed to other a red film. Even if it's old movie with old projector the public want quality.

-The second one, the persons who want to own rare objet.

I think the first one allow to share and promote the hobby and the second have more a historical role like museum.

I don't know if you feel the same!

I speak with a old collectionnor, i told me the price of movie and projector is going down, is it true ? He tells me that at the time he payed more for the film he his selling now?

I'm kind suprise, that the price is not going higher with time.

Pierre, i think your right in what you say. I have been collecting now for 40 years and my Brother 46. Up until around four or five years ago i was buying an awful lot of films, some i bought because i knew they were rare. Generally speaking, if i simply collected and never ever sold a single print we would have around 900 titles or more mow, however, over the years i saw a bit of sense and we whittled it all down to around 500 and its now down to 450. (excluding the 16mm which we only started properly a few years ago).
For me personally, we are only buying what we really want now, and ideally i want to reduce the collection to a sensible order of around just under 200 but this will be done very slowly and over a period of time, for the last few years i have only bought films when i have funds from films sold and am currently looking to invest in a few more 16mm titles and,(if a really good one comes up,a 25mm lens for the Eiki) as i really enjoy this gauge a lot.

I have noticed many collectors do buy, buy and buy which with many red and scratched titles seems a bit pointless to me BUT, each to there own. That is not a criticism, it's just my own opinion.
To me, having thousands of titles would mean you rarely see the same film twice or more. Thats an expensive way to watch a movie with money just sat on a shelf deteriorating.

What we have both decided to do now is go for quality over quantity, ive only slipped up on this once but having said that, the movie in question is still a good one so im allowed one mistake [Big Grin]

Come on Tom.... don't keep us all in suspense..... spill the beans....which one was it?

I agree that one gets to a point where the number of films owned exceeds the number of hours available to view all of them more than maybe twice.... without determining exactly how many hours it involves for the calculation. Depends on ones own frequency of viewing together with time available away from other things.

Again a good point. As mentioned before i am lucky to have a dedicated room so there is no limit to the amount of evenings i can view. Im usually in there two or three times a week.until recently it was most days but i now have a change of circumstances so the projectors now get a rest, apart from that i enjoy the 16mm.
The film in question is my 16mm print of another 48 hours. Quality wise it is fantastic marred only by reel two which suffers from some green lines.1 and 3 are like new. But as the seller at the time gave a partial refund i was happy to keep especially after my audience asked me what i was moaning about. The action certainly moves at a fast pace and keeps you occupied but i myself am a bit fussy.

... but I almost think that it's more possible to get a very good, very sharp super 8 scope print of this title, (as I'm pretty sure that all of the prints of this are on low fade stock AND in this case, STEREO, which you RARELY get on 16MM), than you'll be able to get a low fade scope print of this on 16MM ...

That being said, I know that a scope 16MM of "Dragonslayer" is possible, but never on super 8! [Frown]
