I remember this one very well at secondary modern school, it was shown to us in the 5th year and many years later up the road from where i live, there was a one off 16mm showing at a hall. I cant remember why this was but i went and considering the year it was made it's pretty good. At the time it was frightening.

Many here in the Uk will know that another docu-drama of the same subject was made in 1984 called threads. This one was updated and also at the time, very scary, there was quite a lot of press coverage on it before it was show with many asking for it to be banned. This one would be a better to get on 16 but i have never seen it come up for sale.

The year before in 83, there was also another very good TV movie called the day after, it was recently shown on TV here in the UK and although very good, i think the war games and threads are the better deals, although all three did the job they were intended to do.

Hi Tom, I remember it well. It was filmed mainly in Canterbury using quite a few amateurs, including cine club members. I have it on DVD. Produced and distributed by the B.F.I with Culloden and other special features about the films etc. Both films on DVD and Blu Ray. I believe Peter Watkins started off as an amateur film maker. Purchased my copy about a year or so ago. I don't think the BBC ever issued a copy for sale but I guess there may be a few around if they disposed of them when moving over to video. It was banned from TV screening for 20 years until cinema screening earned it Academy award for best documentary feature in 1967.Ken Finch. [Razz]

I've had a 16mm copy for many years, but DVDs are more readily available.

Note that the film itself is 48 minutes, and when eventually put before the BBFC it was given an X certificate for cinema showing.

Ive had this a few years ago on ebay at the time i didnt know it was rare but it made good money i hope you find it tom dont worry about dvds they are no good it reel film that we want.
