Unless you are going into 16mm in a big way a CIR tape splicer is going to be expensive. even for the smaller version (on eBay at present at £41 with 9 bids and still 6 days to go).
I suggest you buy a cement splicer. It will probably do most of what you want to do. As regards polyester film, which will not accent cement splices, there is very little of this about as only in the later years did polyester get used.
Here is a charming cement splicer for £17.99 (post free) which is described as '3-way' as it will accept standard 8, Super 8, and 16mm. It seems a good proposition. Cement is still readily available.

I could never get the hang of a cement splicer, 8 or 16mm, I'll just have to wait until I come across something, or I'll have to sell the 2 L&H shorts together on one reel, but there's no rush at all, as I can't do much until I get my new Film Storage unit up and running (being erected on the 30th Sep).

Hello Barry, since I don't do a heck of a lot of 16mm splicing, the Craig Master Six is inexpensive and works great for either tape or cement splices. I use the Kodak 16mm presstapes. If you buy any, just make sure they're fresh and not old stock [Wink]

Not such a rush now as I sold the 2 L&H's together on the one reel, but if I come across a reasonably priced CIR splicer I'll buy it for the future. Ricky thanks for the offer, but the amount of use I'd get I could not justify paying over £100 for a splicer, but thanks for the offer.

I still think you should have a go at the cement splicer which I gave you details about. It's very easy to use, and far, far, cheaper than buying a used (or even new) CIR. Also, it can be used with Kodak presstapes, these are double perforated and as they are transparent they are quite acceptable for 16mm sound films.
