Just a quick one for our moderators, but whenever someone on the forum posts a picture as part of their thread, I always get a picture of a p****d off looking bloke with an, erm, very explicit comment underneath it telling me that whoever tried to post the picture has "stolen bandwidth from another user"!

Made me chuckle at first, but whats going on [Confused] [Confused] [Confused]

I used to get that too. I assumed that everyone did but then found that some people were able to view the actual image, what was even more strange was that although I couldn't see the proper image on my pc at home I could on my pc at work. What's that all about [Confused] .

Now, I get the proper image all the time and haven't had the abusive message for ages. Be nice if one of the moderators could sort it out.

Mike

Hello Rob and Mike,

I too get the abusive version, and I thought it was just me! This has been there months.

If someone could show me or explain exactly what this is about then I'll chat to Brad and get it sorted if possible.
I know that if you post a pic onto the forum and then try to sneakily copy it back off it results in a message about bandwidth etc.
Maybe someone could copy and paste this for me and send it via a private email.

Cheers, Kev.

I, too, had some trouble with this just recently, but the solution is actually very simple. (I'd remembered seeing it before but couldn't find it again right away, until I saw it staring me right in the face...)

When you go to http://8mmforum.film-tech.com/ you will notice three buttons in the top left corner of your browser window. Click on the third which says "UPLOAD" and then simply follow all the instructions. It's not nearly as difficult as it will seem at first, it's merely a lot to read. [Smile]
Basically, this website wants you to upload pictures to it instead of linking to other websites, so that the picture can then be linked to locally, from within the forum. Failing to do so causes the "p***ed-off bloke" to rear its ugly head. [Wink]

Jan, thanks, but unless I'm missing something, that seems to deal with uploading images, whereas all I'm trying to do is view images already on a thread [Confused]

Yikes, I misunderstood your original post - sorry about that. Hmm, weird indeed.
I assume you have already tried the basic remedies such as refreshing the page in your browser? What about going to the "My Profile" link and letting the forum delete all cookies from your computer (that might fix things)?

Thanks for suggestions, Jan, but no luck. Weird, huh!

Glad it isn't just me that gets this image!

Kevin, I'm not trying to copy anything, just accessing the site as normal.

Try turning off your fire-wall, to get the pictures, then don't forget to turn it back on. [Confused]

I doubt that it would be a firewall issue - if anything it may be caused by accessing the Internet through a proxy server rather than a direct connection, maybe by a NAT router as well. Other than that I'm fresh out of ideas [Frown]

It's an old joke picture we started on the main site which has since been changed to a text picture. (Porn sites were using the upload feature to host their porn on, then linking to our servers so they wouldn't have to pay the bandwidth!) Remember this forum was started based off of that one and occasionally there have been goofs left behind of old coding. (By the way, the "click here to upload an image" link has been fixed now.)

The problem is in your firewall. If you click on the Film-Tech main site faq about a page down is an explanation.

I stand corrected, Ian, you were right about the firewall. [Smile]

Thanks everyone.

Bit of a delay in replying as I have been "off-line" for a while as we moved house. This one has a bigger cinema!

Yep, if I turn off my Norton Firewall completely I get the proper pictures which is great, but annoyingly, no matter how I try to configure the Firewall to accept the site automatically it won't have it and I still get the "angry" pictures!

Anyone any ideas how to do this? I'm using Norton Firewall 2003.
