Hi all members,
I am curious what is/are the other hobby (ies) of 8mm collectors.

Please answer the above question, but don't give something that related or a branch from this lovely hobby, such as collecting 16mm fims or repairing projectors or etc..etc, but give something far from 8mm.

I will start:

- Vinyl (LP/Records)
- Model Train (HO/OO gauge)
- Tin Toys

Although I've been mostly dedicating my limited spare time to 8&16 over the last two years, I have several centers of interest that phase in and out:
- Scalextric
- Collecting toys (from films or tv series)
- Collecting ViewMaster 3D reels and equipment
- Film posters

Others, however, are continuously rubbing shoulders with "The Hobby":
- Rollercoaster riding (but this is also part of my job... [Big Grin]

)
- Traveling (in order to visit amusement parks and ride roller coasters)
- Drum playing

Now, I haven't found a way to combine all of these, like shooting a super8 film of me playing drums whille riding a rollercoaster at some distant, exotic amusement park... I'll have to think about it...

Computers.... multimedia... most of all, making music. Using synthesizers and MIDI controllers in conjunction with software synth modules and sequencers on the PC... Creating dance beats and riffs and mixing it all up... Or just playing, improvising, going the new-age/electronic route...

Who knows, one day if I'll ever have the time I may create an animated art film of sorts in sync with one of my musical creations... and record it onto the sound stripes in stereo... for a true multimedia presentation of my very own making... *drool* ....

What exactly is your job, Jean-Marc? Could you enlighten us (including necessary qualifications)?

I, for one, collect old pulp magazines from the 1920s and 30s, primarily Weird Tales Magazine and Strange Tales of Mystery and Terror, where masters of weird fiction like Robert E. Howard (Conan), H.P. Lovecraft (Call of Cthulhu), and Clark Ashton Smith (Shambleau) first published their stories. If you are a fan of 40s-50s sci-fi and horror films, or the Twilight Zone, or the Alien movies, you can find the inspiration for most of these stories in the pulps.

And, being a Canadian, I am a rabid hockey fan, but this is less of a hobby and more of a religion. 'Nuff said.

Mine is computing and listing to and collecting Classical Music CDs. I am also a collector of that now defunct Laserdisc system. I just love the quality of these 12" analogue discs.

Regarding your LDs, why you called them as "analogue"? they are digital format too, aren't they. Unless you are talking the CED format.

Laserdiscs have digital PCM audio (in uncompressed format!!) but the video is indeed analogue. It still outperforms VHS by far in terms of signal quality - at least that's what everyone says. It's been too long since I saw an LD with my own eyes. [Roll Eyes]

Due to mobility problems my other interests are sedate, I read a lot, play electronic keyboards/piano and love listening and watching The Moody Blues perform.

My other hobbies are Scalextric (where did we read that above?), sound systems, classic cars (I have a concours TR7 and Susie has a classic Mini Cooper Sport), still play football most Saturdays, and astronomy for those rare night's when I don't put a film on. I also have a pretty enormous collection of laser discs, but Kevin can keep his mits off!!! Susie's also into dolls houses (but they're too small for my collection of Action Men!).

Films are my main but with 3 under 14 year children much of my spare time is taken with them, i do have vast amounts of N gauge railways and acsseoties but have neverfound the time to do something with them. All never used and boxed includes the great Flying scottsman, shame on me really, [Frown]

all presents to. When i retire( [Big Grin]

) i'll probably put it together or sell it for a small fortune. I do enjoy eating out, (anyone tasting the Mrs cooking would understand) [Wink]

Joe, regarding the Moodies, what can I say? you have incredibly good taste. Justin Hayward is reprising his role as the singing voice of Richard Burton in the up-coming stage version of Jeff Wayne's War Of The Worlds. Well, no-one else could sing Forever Autumn.
