I'm in England and one of my daughter and family moved to NI during the summer to live. We are to visit at half term and also the new year. NI not really an atraction with me but my wife is suffering from loss of grand children, so I'm sure can we go to live over there might well come up when we visit.
My question is what is our hobby scene like in NI?
Never noted any input from there here etc.

Well I have been a long time lurker here, and after seeing this topic felt I had to join in. I moved to Northern Ireland from England nearly 10 years ago. I now live in Belfast, and have often wondered where all the film collectors are over here. I have noticed Andy's posts but have never spotted anyone else. So my question is really to Andy, is their anyone else ?
I started collecting 8mm around about 1977 with a Eumig S905 my father bought me for Christmas with a 400 footer Ken release of GI Blues later followed by Star Wars, Elvis the Movie, Smokey and the Bandit 2x400 etc. I used to drive my father potty by making him stand in Portland films for what must of been a good couple of hours. Which for those of you who remeber Portland's small store can imagine must of been a real trial for him. Does anyone remeber Mailmaster Films. I remeber being somwhere around the Astoria Theatre and finding a their shop. I still have many of their old lists they used to send out in the post. I have always had it in my head that they became Portland films although I am probably wrong.
Anyways as I got older video came along and like most people the projector went into the back of the wardrobe for years. Until one day I found it and ran Elvis the Movie again. Then that was me hooked again. On the back of the Elvis cover was Deranns address, so I wrote off to them on the off chance they were still going. This was probably around 1988 or there abouts. Before I new it I had the Derann newsletter through my letter box with The Secert of Nimh winking at me from the page.
I saved up the money, drove to Derann in my fathers car as I didnt think mine would make it purchasing myself a beautiful feature length print of Nimh, only to crash the car in middle lane of the M1 on the way home
After that there was no stoping me, I bought myself a GS1200 and feature after feature. It was then I decided I wanted Dolby Surround from HI FI video. So I wrote to good old Keith Wilton who was most gracious and invited me up to his home to study and copy the sync pulse system he devised, and we have been good friends ever since. I always visit him when I come home.
Well as I say I have enjoyed reading this forum for a long time now and thought I would have to join in and tell a small bit of my story. I have a 9 seater Cinema now which I enjoy using as much as possible. Just cant wait for my 2 year old son to start collecting
all the best
David

Hi Andy and John thanks for the welcome, yes Andy I love Northern Ireland. The way of life here is fantastic although it did take me a while to get used to complete strangers saying hello to me on the streets. I remember Mike Newell I did speak to him a few times on the old forum. He didnt used to live far from me, and I think you are right he has now switched to VP.
Andy I will send you a PM.
