Did any body else catch the rascals 24 hour marathon on tcm tuesday night to wed. night they ran a few titles that had the blackhawk titles was it because the original titles were lost?

I think the original titles are accounted for on the all the talkies. On the most recent DVD boxed set they used prints that were not as good as the Cabin Fever VHS/DVD releases and some of those had the Blackhawk titles. That's probably what they used.

I watched a good part of it being a die-hard OG fan. I didn't watch too many of the silents. The new sound tracks did nothing for me and in fact I disliked them.

Thanks Jim, I haven't kept up on the listings. We will catch a few of the shows for sure. I will have to turn it off when Music Box comes on. For sad reasons, I can never watch that short again. [Roll Eyes]

Strike that, I MUST watch Music Box

Watching "Oliver the Eighth" right now...

-somehow it seems wrong without the sound of a projector in the room!

They seem to be working backwards chronologically.

We're in the early talkies now, and I'm watching "Unnacustomed as We Are" for the first time ever!

-Wow!: If it wasn't for the snowstorm I'd be (you know) working right now!

Tony, it is actually quite sad. I was in Menlo Park a few weeks ago with Roy Neil and Sean Weitzel. We were moving Roy's 100+ year old piano... [Eek!] Some guy sitting next to Roy as the two of us were driving down the street asks him..."Hey, do you remember L&H Music Box?" Sean was behind us and saw what we heard. I'm leaving out trivial details of which I'm positive you don't need in order figure out what happened. [Frown]

Was "The Music Box" on TCm the other day?

If so I missed it.

I don't believe it was I checked the whole 24 hours to see what titles they were airing. I was looking to see if if there were titles I do not have yet in super 8.

I was doing the same thing. I probably have about one in three that I saw in L&H, but fewer in Our Gang/Rascals.

Based on my (errrr) "research" I see a print of "Hog Wild" sometime in my future. among the ones I saw I don't have, this one was my favorite.

I have a Blackhawk Print of "The Music Box". If I had to get rid of all of 'em but one, this is the one I'd keep!

TCM showed THE MUSIC BOX -- they showed all 40 Roach L&H sound shorts.

Some issues with the TCM broadcast:

The Film Classic main title of Chickens Come Home was cut. Jumping from the plaque and straight to the credits. Why you may ask? Because the Film Classic material is erroneously titled: Chicken Come Home.

So it left me shocked that the original title for the OG Bouncing Babies was complete, instead of the Film Classic title: Bounding Babies.

For any fan of Below Zero, the film was cut after 10 minutes, just as the the police officer agrees to join the boys at a local restaurant. It was preempted with a TCM advertisement selling videos from Movies Unlimited.
[Confused]

The sound on the last portion of Pardon Us was full of static noise, leaving anyone unfamiliar with the plot in complete confusion.

The elements for Another Fine Mess was poor.

Pack Up Your Troubles-sans the MGM lion, was from the Janus Films negatives that were used for the Laurel and Hardy TV package from 25 years ago. Sharp quality, but it had printed in fade-outs, and fade-ins where the commercials would be inserted for broadcast.

They had those same two or three little snips they ran between the shorts. If you were in it for the marathon they wore a little thin!

OK!, OK!...Sydney Poitier is a great actor.

-I got that five times ago!

We thought for an instant the TV had gone south when the sound went sour during "Pardon Us". It's one of those moments that threatens to become very expensive!

-You grab the remote, say a little prayer and then flip the channel hoping the sound will come back!

You guys don't know how lucky you are in the US. God forbid that anything silent or even from the 30's should appear on TCM UK.

We'll give them credit for that much: at least most of these are available colorized these days, but they stayed with B&W.
