One big thing about 8mm film cameras , its always expensive. It doesnt make no sense. I meant like Canon 1014XL-S and some professial cameras. I mean like Canon 512XL, 514XL or XL-S, 814, Double 8 Bolex cameras not 100ft version, and Bell & Howell XL cameras. Its so frustrating to find a bargain on those cameras. ![[Frown]](frown.gif)

Hi Nathan, forget about 1014XLS, this is some kind of a Roll-royce. No one will let this go for less than $400.
BTW, what is your idea for a "bargain" price for the cameras?
You can still get 814 AE for $75 if you keep hunting on local classified.

I have found that most 8mm cameras are capable of high quality images. I have a Revere 8mm camera that shoots incredible images (all manual settings)...that I saw an identical model on ebay for less than $30.
I would look for any camera that has manual exposure override so if necessary you can use a separate light meter.

Look for Sankyo EM 40 or 60. They have features you often only find on high end cameras, a crisp lens, and usually do not go for much.

Winbert - Bargain prices I have looking for between 5-40 dollars which depends on how many features does the camera have. My favorite feature of super 8 camera is Existing Light System.
Thomas - One problem is the light meter is mess up. I mean when i aim at sunlight and the result says its aperture f/1.4. Someone played around with the 0 tuning, i have no idea how to fix the 0 tuning.
Knut - I would look for Sankyo EM cameras. It is a nice camera which it has very decent features. If i see one and i will buy it in bargain.

Nathan, since there is no longer sound films, just find a decent silent camera.
Canon 1014XLS price is higher also because many features that first time shooters will not need that.
The most important for the camera is the lens and pressure gate (I am not really sure what is the name, but that pressing film tight and flat when running through the lens)
I will take an Elmo Super 106 which has crisp lens and I just recently bought it for $5.
Stick to common (famous) brands for the sake of lens!

I've noticed that as well. Prices for the top of the line siper 8 cameras are justified, but even lower brand models are rather up there.
Either that or it's a good brand name company, but a lesser quality model but yet, because of the name, an excessive price.

just for an example after doing random search:
Canon 301XL for $8.5
Canon 514 XL for $10.5 (guarantee working)
Canon 514XL for $19
Elmo Super 104 for $8.5
Elmo 240S-XL for $9.9
and this is a gambling but good a try:
Canon Auto Zom 814 for $18.38

bear in mind, it's just an opinion. I personally have seen, over the last few years, even really crappy old cameras having a rather steep beginning price ...
but then, sometimes the opposite is true ... an incredibly great film camera that has an astoundingly low price, usually due to the owner/seller having no idea as to what they have.

No..that is not the case. If you read some of their description most owner knew what they were selling. Only due to the fact supply is higher than demand now.

I have checked everyday, several times per day since December. Man, they did sold Canon 514XL for $19 and Canon 814 for $18! Wow, this is extreme rare chance to get those cameras for bargain. I never won bidding , expect only once on Canon 310XL last winter. ![[Embarrassed]](redface.gif)

Those are good deals but I include shipping into the price when I am looking so that Elmo 240...is not $10.00 its $35.00 with shipping and the Canon 514 for $20.00 is $30.00. I look at overall totals. Those are some good deals.
I think the postage on the Elmo is pretty steep...good thing it sold for $10.00!

Yes,...here in Toronto all spots are no free. Toronto is like New York.
(ps: A bit OOT, we even park more than 2 cars in front of our own garage is subject to get ticket !)

My point is a reasonable shipping on Ebay listing us equal to all related costs we pay when getting non-ebay stuff from actual stores.

In Toronto downtown it is $3.5/hour on street and prepare for $8/hour off street.

Excluding fleabay and a perchance it may work purchase from that location..
If you attend film events you may have noticed Super 8 cameras on sale have started to rise in price as well. Four of five years ago top end Canon or even Sankyo cameras were available at modest cost, but today a good fully working camera will indeed be on offer at a much higher price. I believe this is largely due to those working in or studying media using them for arty projects and also this being supported by a very good range of film emulsions. Certainly in my region I have seen far more super 8 filming taking place this last couple of years than previously which is great to see.

Well...I suppose it depends what store you go to....downtown you pay the parking meter(I don't go downtown) concert or sporting event you pay (I don't go to these either) regular store...hardware, food etc. you don't have to pay to park.
