It comes to my mind if those film makers also love to collect films like we do.

So I raised a question in film makers forum (filmshooting) about that and let us see what will be the respond.

I collect some, but not as much as many. I have my prints from the 70es, some of which are red, and I do run the good ones.

For me, both aspects (shooting and collecting) are great, but I find that I have reached the point where I have much lower tolerances for bad prints (Super-8 and 16mm) so I buy slowly and carefully.

The shooting end, for me, is a matter of keeping the only semi-affordable home film format alive for as long as possible; I am still blown away at the kind of quality the latest Vision3 negative stocks offer for Super-8.

I used to shoot a lot of film, but not so much anymore since the kids grew up and left the nest. I have a very modest collection but like everyone else, I wish I could get more but have to balance purchases with a small budget. To me, it is all the same hobby and I love it.

I'm more interested in shooting and projecting home movies than collecting films. The main reason I joined this forum is for help with projectors and film handling. The collecting bug has bit me a few times, I've purchased a few prints on Ebay. I got 400' super 8 sound digests of The Sound of Music and North by Northwest. I bought them after I found a near mint Elmo 180 sound projector at a sale for $15. I have also picked up several old 8mm horror movies to project on Halloween. I have an old 8mm travel film for Paris that I picked up before my wife and I went there last year. My collection is very small, it all fits into one of those old metal film storage boxes that hold twelve 400' reels.

If I find old home movies at estate sales I usually grab them. I started out buying them for the reels for my own movies but discovered that they can be fun to watch. I just don't want to mix them up with our own old home movies, that could get confusing when I get older and start losing my mind. [Big Grin]
