Jim

That was made by Super 8 Sound so the best people to explain is Pro8mm. You may contact them through their website www.pro8mm.com.

However there is a manual of some similar machine which on page 8 you will find the exact recorder:

and another manual is also found here which may enlighten you more:

good luck!

It's a normal Uher reel-to-reel-recorder modified to work in a "double band"-setup. I don't know whether it's act as a "master" or as a "slave" when connected to a projector. It most likely only works for certain projectors (e.g. projectors equipped with a "flash sync"-socket).
The white "AC PAC"-box is to be put between recorder and camera/projector and "converts" the sync-signal between the formats used by the recorder and by the camera/projector.
The blue "Photo Start"-box is most likely to be help in front of the projector's lens and will start the recorder on the first frame that's "bright enough" (e.g. completely clear). It's used to prevent you from manually searching for the start frame on the film (as only few projectors do have a manual film advance).
