I guess this is where I introduce myself in the forum. I'm Donna and I've been bitten by the 16mm film bug. I am buying my 16mm projector today along with TV spots, trailers (including a Star Wars trailer-so excited by that (and yes, I figured I sound like a complete noob with that statement!)). I guess for me, this is part of the journey I've been on for the past five years. Growing up, I think I spent all of my allowance every week going to the movies (late 70s and into the 80s). The local theater ran a special double feature every Sunday afternoon where for $5 it was admission to two movies, a popcorn and soda. Now, I'm an anthropologist and documentarian who makes B flicks (I'm usually the EP because apparently OCD and the ability to say no are all that are needed to do that job) on the side for fun. This past weekend, I was at Texas Comicon to promote upcoming movies that I'm working on and I was luckily placed right across from an 16/35mm film dealer. And I guess the rest is history....

Hello Donna, and welcome to the forum, nice to hear from the
16mm brigade for a change. The only problem with 16mm is
the truly horrendous cost of shipping between countries.Anyway
I digress. Here's to having happy debates.

Hi Donna,
Welcome to the gang. 16mm is my first love too, though I have a handful of Super 8 prints.

Austin, does your Browser have a spellchecker? [Razz]
Welcome Donna! I am a long time collector of both 16mm and Super 8mm. Enjoy the Hobby! Feel free to ask questions. Use the Search feature first as the topic may have been covered in the past. [Wink]

Due to their Rarity, all Female Film Collectors are Babes! [Wink]

Thank you everyone for the warm welcome. And thanks for the compliment as I do not consider myself a 'babe' usually. Its nice to hear that my fondness for movies is appreciated!
I just picked up my new baby... a kodak pageant projector along with a trailer for Star Wars, several movie spots which were shown on TV (Andromeda Strain, To Kill a Mockingbird, M*A*S*H, Thomas Crown Affair, Support Your Local Sheriff, Willy Wonka, Dr. No, Planet of the Apes and Kelley's Heroes).

Welcome Donna, and do not take Joe's comment too seriously. As he correctly points out female film collectors are indeed a rarity, so when someone such as yourself starts posting we all assume that you look like Ingrid Pitt or Valerie Leon!
Seriously though, it is always great to have anybody new join the club, so again welcome. And the Kodak Pageant is an excellent projector, certainly Kodak's best.

Welcome to the forum Donna!!

I used to collect 16mm but switched to 8mm due to size and cost restrictions. There is plenty of 16mm films out there to be had.

Enjoy!
