Had to post these quickly.
Just came back from a visit from the Highland Cinemas in Kinmount, Ontario and have overdosed from projectors.
These are from the attached Museum/Collection
Absolute stunning collection Highlandcinemas.com
And there is no digital! Only vintage styled cinemas (well at least until the end of the year)
A quick sampling!
Powers 35mm circa 1908 - Found in Listowel Ontario (lamp from London England)
Motiograph 35mm sound circa 1930
Simplex 35mm Semi Portable Projector from Kodak in Toronto early 1940's
PROJECTORS, PROJECTORS, PROJECTORS! The Movie
more too come...
Cheers

absolutely beautiful stuff, thanks for posting! !

Glad you like them, here's more..
Saying the museum is attached is actually wrong. You walk through the maze of projectors and memorabilia to get to the cinemas.
Will try to upload some video soon too!
Cheers

What is jukebox related to the projectors (last photo)?
Posted by Terry Lagler (Member # 1110) on July 06, 2012, 09:39 AM:
Projectors were the main attraction but there were display cases full of toys and memorabilia from the turn of the century to the 90's. Also a couple of Jukeboxes a pinball machine and a hall dedicated to Horror Movies.

Hi Terry,
This is a private museum, right? I saw one Fumeo there, the owner must be a rich people . What is the story behind this museum?
Is that located up north of Peterborugh. That is a rural, heh?
Your recent last photo shows one table with 3 turntable? was it an Old DJ console?
What is the admission fee for Adult and kids?
Posted by Terry Lagler (Member # 1110) on July 06, 2012, 10:10 AM:
Hi Winbert
Check the "About" page on the website for more info.
The museum is very public and part of the cinema (you have to walk through it to get to the theatres)
They have 5 theatres, we saw Spider Man in one of the bigger ones. I think the smallest holds no more than 50 people.
You can visit the museum alone for $4 a person.
I've been in Ontario my entire life and only heard about it about 2 years ago. Wednesday was my first visit. It's VERY hidden!
Its probably about 2 hrs from your place should you care to make a day trip out to cottage country.
Cheers
Terry
PS
Yeah that looks like a DJ console!!! maybe it was used for Radio?
(not everything had info attached to it)
EDIT
Windows Movie Maker came in handy here>
Here are some video clips!

Terry,
The 3-turntable unit is known as a "Non-Sync". Every projection box had one to provide "non-synchronised" music from records for Intermissions, slide advertising, stage shows etc.

Very interesting, Thanks for the explanation Martin.
Now who can shed a light on that thing with the 4 tubes (in the above pictures)
Terry
EDIT
now that I look closer it looks like it is some sort of amplifier.

The third photo from the last, the projector thats painted light blue, is that 70mm? the reels look wide enough, any idea what make?
Regards Graham.

Hi Graham
The white card stuck to the projector has some additional info, although even with the photo at full size it is hard to read.
This is what I can make out:
"Portable 35mm 1979 Found in a __ Hall in Toronto.
A copy of A___um? Model 1960 (this line is hard to read)"
Can you figure it out from this info?
Cheers

What's kind of sad is this section:
Saving Highlands Cinemas
That deals with their future in the face of the end of 35mm film and digital cinema.
Who would have imagined an entire artform could be obsoleted!
"Sorry Leonardo, they don't make paint anymore. Here: you can do "paintings" with crayon from now on. -just as good!"
The real shame is in this case "Leonardo" may not even be able to afford the crayons, or the ones he'll be asked to buy when these are obsoleted.

I used to have one of those portable projectors, it was a chinese copy of a russian copy of a german projector, not a bad unit, unsure if the one in the photo is a copy or one of the german machines.
