Yesterday we had to have our lovely and intelligent dog Jenny put to sleep, she had a cancerous growth on her side, and it was irritating her so much she opened up a 4" gash, and the vet said that it was so infected that even with more treatment she would only last another 3 to 4 weeks. I know some of my collecting friends who came to my home for films will have met her, she was a lovely dog, and she went everywhere with me, she was always by my side. My brother Michael is distraught, as this was most definately his dog, when he was around I was number 2, which was fine by me, I had her all the weekdays. She will be sorely missed, as us being 2 old batchelors, she was the nearest thing to a child we will ever get.

Rest in peace my lovely Jenny.

Sorry to read about your loss Barry, it must be heartbreaking when you have to make a decision like that. My dog is my companion 24 hours a day, and not having any children she is like my child.

She was a good age, nearly 14, but that's what makes it harder, she's been with us for so long, you know in your heart of hearts that your animals don't live as long as we do, but it still makes it bloody hard.

She even survived a mini stroke when she was 4, so she was a fighter, right up to the end.

But she will be missed, who am I going to talk to now about you collectors during the day.

Very sorry to learn of your sad loss Barry, I know just how you feel.
All the dogs that come our way are rescue dogs, the two we have
at present are getting on, but that's life, the best thing you can
do, is after your term of mourning, is to get yourself another dog,
or cat, they have great personalities too.

So sorry to hear that Barry. Always hard to see a beloved pet go. I could on about our own pets over the years but I'll spare you. However, all the best to you.

Sorry for your loss Barry, I can relate. I had to go through sad times at the vet's with three of my dogs in the past; and the only one besides me in the house now is my dog....

Thanks for all your kind words, we are going to get a puppy in a few weeks, but we've got to make the house "Puppy Proof" before we get one.

Sorry to hear about your loss Barry. I love all pets. The loss of one is devastating.
But if you remember all the good times it is worth it. Man's best friend for sure.

I'm sorry for your loss Barry. I know how hard that can be. I've had several dogs put to sleep over the years. Two were from large tumors. Believe me, its the most humane thing you can do.

Its funny, when I was a kid, my line of thinking was, "Thats cruel and selfish to put a dog to sleep- just let them live as long as they can". I'm glad that with age comes wisdom, because, nothing could be farther from the truth. I think once people see how quick and humane it is for the dog, they will do it too, rather than have a dog suffer for a long period of time.

My condolences Barry. I recently went through this and it was an awful experience, tempered by the knowledge that it was the right thing to do.
I'm glad you and your brother were able to enjoy Jenny's companionship for such a long time. She was lucky to have you both.

Our dear Barry. So sorry to hear the news my friend which I can sympathise with having just exited the endless tunnel from my own recent Cancer scare, hospital tests and theatre over the last couple of months. What is a comfort is to know your film collecting friends are close to you as I have found as well and a great comfort in a dark hour facing a concrete wall. You take care and love from us both here XXXX

It's a horrible truth that must be faced, these little creatures, don't
have our lifespans, and when they go, part of us goes with them
Our little "family" of rescues eventually passed away, one, Zeb,
a collie/alsation cross, cost over £2.000.00 for us to have his leg
fixed, but we were not told that the steroids used, buggered up
his main organs after less than two years. I know that Barry, like
all animal lovers, will come to terms on his bereavement, it's just
like a loved person passing, but like I said previously, a new pet,
eventually, helps with the loss.
