Thank God for the new UK lottery! It's been running some weeks now and I've made a profit on EVERY draw!

Yes, it's because I stopped doing it. The incentive.... We had to buy a new Gas Boiler, which came with a 10 Year "Everything Covered" Breakdown Cover. We have to pay for an Annual Service, but I calculate that the cost of the Boiler, Installation and ALL the 10 annual Services are more than covered by my savings on not doing the Lottery, even taking into account the rare small wins we used to have.

Now, isn't that a no-brainer? [Smile] [Smile] [Smile] [Smile] [Smile]

Not many things have a 100% price hike, but the U.K. National Lottery recently angered its fans by increasing tickets from £1 to £2.

A lottery is a tax for people who expect something from nothing.

Not personally a fan of lotteries (I've seen the light) but it's
not "a tax for people who expect something from nothing". That a very cynical view!
A TAX is COMPULSORY, IMPOSED by one or more governmental organizations.
A LOTTERY is VOLUNTARY and run by a private gambling company (at least, the UK one is).

And participants don't "expect something from nothing", they hope to make a good return from the REAL MONEY they pay in.

It would be more accurate to say that is "a very unwise investment"..... but then, for example, too often is "buying something on impulse", which even the most cynical of us is guilty of.

Well said Martin. I don't have any luck with Euro Millions, but I am reluctant to give up, or change my numbers, the Law of Averages say my numbers should come up eventually. I just hope I am still around, and not in the big film archive in the sky.
