It appears that US based Radio Shack has been sold out of bankruptcy. I'm not sure what this will mean to consumers over the long haul...but it currently means that some Radio Shack stores will remain open and that there will be a new online store opening soon. Radio Shack over the years has been a great resource for small electronic parts for hobbyist.

Tandy here in the UK was your Radio Shack name here. Built a few little projects from them. We are also lucky to have Maplins.

They have already closed both the stores in my town in Virginia.

I talked to a sales person at a local Radio Shack about a month ago and he told me that the company said to the employees of this particular location, " The store may be closed in a week or a month. We'll let you know." How's that for job security?

That's about as good as it gets these days.

I was in a shopping center where they were closing yet another Radio Shack today. The discounts were extreme: 70%, 80%...

-so I decided to stop in and scavenge the carcass as much as I could!

What a thing to stand there and try to imagine every cable, every adapter, every whatever I will need for the rest of my natural life!

"Well...if I ever go into 16mm I'll need cables with quarter inch plugs..."

I did get one of those electronic project grabbers with alligator clips to hold the work and a magnifier to look at it.

-I'm not sure I really need it (I've been soldering just fine without one since Junior High School)...but I've wanted one since I was 12...so why not?!

They had a lot of funky cables out I'd never seen before that nobody in history of electronics has ever needed!

-"USB on one end...booster cables on the other?!!!"

They were clearing out VHS capstan and head cleaners. I asked my son about VHS: he's never heard of any such thing...

The guys behind the counter said of about five local Shacks, we will keep exactly one.
