Well lately I been a busy little bee [Roll Eyes]

but one project I have managed to achieve, was moving a "Westar" projector from storage across town, that was kindly donated by its owners to a local transport museum.

Now!! the biggest problem was moving it to the museum, as these things are not exactly "lightweight" and I am no longer a spring chicken, however after making contact with the young kid I trained up as a projectionist so many moons ago "now grown up"..he came to my rescue and between the two of us the projector the only 35mm there, has now found a new home in this time capsule of a building from the past.

Now... I am sure I can get it going for those folks [Wink]

I spent many years operating a pair of these for Classic Cinemas, who were later taken over by Cannon.
Eventually we only had one projector which had been converted to xenon lighting. The film was on a 15,000ft capacity tower.
How I miss the carbon arcs and the constant change-overs.
Those were the days!

Graham, I'm intrigued by your Museum. Can you tell us a little more about it. From your picture the film room is just a part? A beauty of a projector. Can't believe so many have been thrown out like yesterday's paper. Time mrches on sadly.

What an absolute beauty! How I would love one of those (if I had the room). I always remember an old Simplex that Tony Raepert had displayed in the lobby of his Buckingham Films shop in Fleece Yard, Buckingham. Much older than the Westar but absolutely awesome. I would always ponder over it when I called there.

Dave Google "Ferrymead Heritage Park"...in Christchurch...there are a number of societies that are involved. The one I am in, is Canterbury Centre for historic film and photography...I think they need to shorten it [Roll Eyes]

..anyway most are into still, not motion picture film.

However they have heaps of it and I am hoping in time to help out more, with better displays of Super8 etc. The "Hall of Wheels" that's where the Westar is, is a building where much of the content has been sitting there for year,s at least over 30.

This is the best place at present for film projectors. I would like to bring my 35mm Bauer U4 later on...still thinking on that one. Once again in the long term, this really would be the place for it.

As you can see in this photo the Westar is still a goer, and came with red LED reverse scanning...the pre-amp...everything.

I forgot to mention this Westar came from the Oxford Town hall and was one of two fitted in the late 1990s to replace the two Ernemann 2 projectors installed in 1930. One of those Ernemann 2 that were replaced is the one I now run at home. [Cool]
