Although at the flicks we found the latest Bond a bit of a mixed bag, have to say the Blu-Ray was much more enjoyable screened at home but not quite sure why. The Mexico opening shots still look a bit soft to me perhaps intentional or as a result of different acquisition equipment? For whatever reason we did enjoy it much more second time round.

Anyone else watched the BR yet? [Cool]

Yes I bought it on Monday and gave it a watch yesterday, the best Bond by far by Daniel Craig. Looks great on the big screen though.

I notice that Tesco is already selling the DVD at only £7, a bargain. Blu-ray is £15 btw.

It's gotta be worth it just to hear Sam Smith take over from where Slash your wrists,Lets live in the past, Doom & Gloom merchant Adele left off!!

What America see's in this woman is quite frankly beyond me now.
Good for one tune maybe in the early days, but c'mon Adele, move on, You're a new mother and wife now Jeeez!!!

Can you believe she turned down $5m for the opening track on this!!????????

What a silly woman you really are Adele!!

Puddled as my Dad would say!! [Confused]

Get over yourself Woman!

Totally agree Andrew. Very overrated and all her songs sound the same. Just shows how the general public can be manipulated by promoters. Still nothing new there. [Cool]

She only ever sings about relationships from a bygone era and how heartbroken and downtrodden she was.

If you were her new husband, I don't know what you'd make of it all???

She needs to get Ken Dodd's songwriters on her case for a while! [Big Grin] [Big Grin] [Big Grin]

The Sam smith song gets slightly better ( just ) with more listening`s, but too many airey fairy bits etc.

Adele`s songs do sound pretty similar but on Skyfall I think it beats the recent one to bits personally.

Some of the old ones were great, but recentish wise Casino Royale`s " You know my name " is a real classic.

Best Mark,

Ps of D.C`s 4 films I prefer C.R too myself.

Give me Sam Smith any day of the week!

Adele's bond theme "skyfall" when i first heard this, I thought she was singing "scaffold". I know the film has some dangerous sets of daring do, but all those workmen wolf whistling, must be "a 15 guide " rating.

SPOILER ALERT
****************

OK, I've watched this movie twice in the last week, and enjoyed it more the second time. What I can't figure out is how Blofeld knew to pick Bond and the girl up in the desert by car?

I'm not a Bond fan (have maybe seen 6 of them total), and I was confused as far as WTH was going on most of the time in the movie. I went with some friends who were going and I figured I'd be able to get by having not seen very many of them.

I've seen all but one Bond film, and I had to watch it twice to really understand all the nuances of the plot -- except regarding the question I asked.

I know that there are some that would, of course, disagree, but I think that Daniel Craig is easily the best Bond since Connery!

I've enjoyed all of the Craig outings, where the "other Bonds" didn't really do it for me, as a general rule. [Smile]

Bond is injected with a tracking chip in the beginning of the movie which becomes a major plot point as Monneypenny and Q attempt to keep Bond's movements a secret.

Later in the film, M declares Bond is on his own because:

M: "If we can track Bond, others can too."

Do you really need anything else?

Also, Sam Smith's singing is beautiful with one of the most perfect falsetto's I've ever heard. That said, I do wish they would release the movie version which is a better mix/presentation that the version currently available.

Mark Todd's "airy, fairy" comments is IMO both disgusting and offensive, not to mention homophobic. Please take your immature comments elsewhere.

Airey Fairy, is nothing to do with anything like that at all. Not where I live.

I`m not suggesting Sam is Gay at all, and if he is thats up to him entirely. Sorry if anyone took offense at that, but there was no intention at all!!!

I just mean the way its sung is a bit airey fairy, have a listen to it.

Best Mark. Look it up.

I'd take it to mean "Lightweight" performance.

I know what you mean Mark, purely a singing style comment and nothing more, Mark

Exactly lads, thanks, I don`t know where the other idea came from even ?

Best Mark.

Mark, there appears to be a difference between our two countries as to the meaning of "airey, fairy".

Here's a definition I found:

Airey, Fairy: adjective
1.Informal, delicate or lovely:
an airy-fairy actress; an airy-fairy nightgown.
not based on reality or concerned with mundane affairs; unrealistic: airy-fairy ideas about spending a fortune that isn't even his.

2.Slang. effeminate; swishy.

That second meaning is what it means in America. I apologize for any misunderstanding.

As for the song, I own it on digital and the CD single and plan on getting the vinyl when I can. I've heard it about 20 times or so and don't agree with your opinion.

Again, I'm sorry for jumping to conclusions. Everyone's opinion is valid. We'll just have to agree to disagree. [Razz]

No worries Thomas. Thanks.

If you look at the first definition under my post thats describes my own thoughts on the style of the way the songs sung.

It does have some good stronger points where I`d of preffered it was built on in that way.

If other people love it, thats great too. Thats music`s varied appeal.

Best Mark.

Aha! I never thought of that being the way Blofeld knew to pick him up. Makes sense -- thanks!

But this leads to a few more questions:
1. Bond didn't necessarily know that, yet he waits as though it were an appointment.
2. C's system apparently never went live, since Q hacked it and shut it down. The pickup in the desert was before the live date, anyway.

Mark, I understand what you were saying now. No worries from me also!

Joseph, you're welcome! I watched it again today and remembered your question. [Wink]

As for the rest, the tracking chip is on the MI6 system which C likely would've had access to or had hacked into it on Blofeld's orders.

Bond knows the head of Spectre is tracking him (bad guys trying to kill him wherever he goes) so he reasons if he goes to the area the base is, he'll get picked up.

I'm not a fan of Adele but she delivers on Skyfall it is a strong theme in the catalogue of Bond opening theme songs. Sam Smith on Spectre despite a mountainload of hype can be summed up in one word DROSS.

The old acting adage of knowing your lines and not bumping into the furniture seem to have been lost on him he has a weak voice and the music backing is weak he actually damages the film. It is a shame his theme comes at the beginning instead of the one hour forty mark as it would make an excellent toilet break for the audience. [Eek!]

In addition Bond had "Smart Blood" which could also track him.

Posted by Thomas Murin, Jr. (Member # 1745) on February 26, 2016, 05:08 PM:

Pasquale, that's what I was referring to. Q states it's a "Smart Blood" micro tracking chip. It goes into Bond's bloodstream making it impossible for him to remove as he did in a previous film.

Mike Newell, I could not disagree more strongly with you.

Thomas Murin , Jr I am quite happy to disagree with you and my ears thank me for it.

I'm with you on this Mike, not one of the best songs,if you close your eyes it could be Adele singing it,now Live and Let Die,there was a bond song !!! [Wink] (^^^)
