Just reading a new book. "The Man Who Was Old Mother Riley", about the lives and films of Arthur Lucan and Kitty McShane.
Still laughing at a gag the Lucans used in their very first known mother-daughter act in 1919.
"Where did he kiss you?"
"Between the Post Office and the Railway Station."

Loved the Old Mother Riley films which were huge hits made on a shoestring. Arthur Lucan and his wife (who played his daughter Kitty) rowed like cat and dog. The films are inclined to be a bit repetitive and patchy in their humour. I have the 16mm print of 'Old Mother Riley, Headmistress' which has two very very funny bits. While living in Luton, I advertised the showing of the film and a member of the (then) defunct Luton Girls Choir turned up on the night and delighted both herself at seeing it and the audience by seeing her.
