Well I am gobsmacked at the quality of this release on Network here in the UK.

The quality of this disc is the best I have seen ever.

Apart from some scratches from the master used for the transfer
its as good as 35mm film at home.

I have seen this on 8mm and 16mm and very dire copies on VHS tape
and DVD but this Blu-Ray disc tops them all.

I hope that Universal / Hal Roach get around to releasing their
other titles soon on Blu-Ray. [Wink] [Wink] [Wink]

Most Blu Ray presentations now through a decent HC PJ are as well presented on screen as any 35mm print, David.

This is nothing unusual nowadays it has to be said.

Sample the newer high powered red rich lamp variants that are out there with a Blu Ray disc from even a modest player, the results are simply incredible on even the biggest of screens.

I saw an HD copy of this film, but I wasn't really impressed, unless they have released a better restored version?

Osi ... The disc I have is released by Network.
They had access to a print from the BBC over here.

I know there was another release from I think V.C.I.
but the Network one is reported to be of better quality.

I have to say Andrew that some of the Digital movies I showed
at the Cinema was better in many ways to the 35mm prints we were showing at the time.

Mike ... yes that's the one I bought.
The other Hal Roach Laurel and Hardy films are long over due a
Blu-Ray release.
The 21 disc set of the complete Laurel and Hardy DVDs that are
available have some faults and could look better.
However the good news is that the source they came from was scanned in 4K resolution. So the Blu-Ray discs can be released
NO PROBLEM !

The problem seems to be with Universal and the Hal Roach Estate.
It is them that are dragging their heels on a Blu-Ray release.
It is the same 4K source that was used for the special UK Laurel
& Hardy presentations that were shown in the Cinemas in 2014/15.

I must state that they looked excellent on the big screen and far better than any print I saw as a kid on 35mm film.
The prints I saw were well worn scratched and splicey.

It seems like I will be buying into Ultra HD very soon.
