Must have been something in the air that weekend. I was going, but poorly on Thursday so didn't make it.

Pleased to say, as CHC is only about 30 miles away for me, I DID attend the Saturday morning sale. As ever, there were literally stacks and stacks of films to wade through from floor to ceiling, some cracking titles to be had,in all gauges.... a lucky dip for £1 (I ended up with 2x 200' sound films, one about sailing which was really good, and the main dance routine from Top Hat)..... and also one or two freebies for those that spent!
I wasn't too sure if the attendance was consistent with the same event last year, but there were a few faces I did not recognise. Two gentlemen, I believe, were from other shores which is always a healthy sign of dedication!
I know one other forum member attended having driven over from further afield and is certainly not his first visit to CHC. These three people, at least, must represent some sort of accolade as to the worthiness of this event, and to Phil's hospitality.

I urge you all to follow the Classic Home Cinema website to keep track on the date of the next event and, if you are within 3 hours or so drive from Grimsby/Cleethorpes, make an effort to attend. You wouldn't go home disappointed.........broke maybe.....but not disappointed!

I was staggered by the quantity of film on my first visit last year, so I went again and thought it was a very good weekend. Travelling from South London doesn't seem far considering the regulars who come from Norway! I didn't spend a fortune but I picked up some rare 200' shorts on Super 8, including National Film Board of Canada films that I'd never previously heard of. On 16mm I found a very rare "Ilford Elmo" short lasting about 4 mins and featuring the factory in Japan, and found a trailer for 'True Romance' for only £5. There were plenty of offers and bargain prices that remind you of how things were before Super 8 prices shot up on ebay! E.g. I got a mint Walton 400' 'North West Frontier' with perfect colour for £8.

The social aspect was good too, with an excellent fish and chip meal on Friday evening followed by drinks in a pub. Phil and Denise hosted the usual big Chinese buffet meal on Saturday followed by a 16mm show in the garden, provided by Dave Locke. Cleethorpes is a pleasant place to go for the weekend, making the overall experience a bit like a smaller Blackpool, but with warm sunshine! If you enjoy spending hour after hour looking through more films than you could possibly hope to check out in one weekend, it's a must!
