I’m perfectly fine I got sick of the bullshit so I am no longer using Facebook or it’s chat server called messenger to my friends here in the forum who my friends are there as well it is what it is now

I've thought about it as well, but I'm tempted for another whole different reason ...

I just can't keep up with it. I've have so many "friends" now that there are a myriad of "Birthday" notices clogging up my e-mail that i can't possibly keep up with and I rarely ever post on there these days anyways.

I have been on Facebook for many many years, I have 21 friends, all of which I see at least twice a year.

Some years back I opted out as I got home and someone had shared a news article, I just didn't want to see. I'd already known about it in the news and my mind-set was that Facebook should be a place of happiness, not depression. I left face book and re-activated some years later. I don't mind it, I give little info away and like to make random jokes and rants. I use it when I want and am in no way addicted to telling people what I have for tea.. unless it's rather spiffing.

to be honest, i have had an account for years but never filled in all the boxes and use it very little, too much information going out, having seen what FB have recently done i am surprised how many people are still using it. Also, i find it incredible how many people have there setting done in a way that anyone can go into a persons and see everything without actually being a friend, and of course you can see all of there friends!!!! Are people that stupid that they dont want there security set up properly so if you try and view them you MUST become a friend first.That should be the only way.So i dont blame anyone for wanting to come off it,

Unsure if this is getting into politics.. but I am also somewhat confused how people can be directed to vote for a certain party based on any third party intervention.

Who I vote is who I vote for, I am aware that the media news is in the whole false, and corrupt.. ah it's the freedom world we live in I suppose.. it's not free at all.

The bug that went up my ass using Facebook was the stupid PEOPLE YOU MIGHT LIKE TO KNOW (PYMLTK) list. In my opinion this was the worst thing the server could ever offer its members. Sure, it’s nice to meet new people and make friends. But the way they made it available – and continuously shoved it down our throats – was nothing short of nauseating.

For example, say you started to scroll through the list. Before you know it – you’re 75 people in to the list. So you open a file and decide to have a look. You quickly decide nope – I don’t want to know that person. So you click the back button. Suddenly – you are back to the first image – at the beginning – and you are NOT where you left off.

Second: There is the option on the list to X out. Click that, and it asks HIDE THIS and under that it says SEE LESS OF THIS. So you click out and it’s gone. You then continue scrolling down the normal Facebook newsfeed junk. Within seconds, there’s another PYMLTK list. And when you turn Facebook off for a few hours or until the next day – the PYMLTK list is always there ready to greet you again.

Awhile back, I found something called FACEBOOK PURITY. I don’t remember the site location – but those of you can Google it if you want. It’s an add on to your browser. Inside the add on you can customize Facebook to your liking. And yes – you can make the PYMLTK list go away. But wait – there is a catch with this free add on: It only works with Desk and Lap top pc’s. It does NOT exist for cellphones – the majority type of device used most for accessing Facebook. Hmmmmmmm sounds like a conspiracy to me.

I did enjoy Facebook while I was on it. Except for making friends. If I want to find friends, I’ll go to a club or a diner and meet the person next to me. It’s my choice to do that – nobody tells me to go out and meet people. Nobody pushes me into a crowded elevator and says I have to make friends with these people. Because if someone did that to me – I’d fart when the door closes. Whomever survived the trip up or down – would be laughing with me. And that’s how I would make a new friend.

Rest assured I made this post just to calm your nerves. There I was on Facebook and now I’m gone. So get over it, Facebook.

Now I will have more time to enjoy my film collection.

its a great way to keep in touch with people and places around the world, its really up to you how you use it [Smile]

Facebook can also instruct your account requesting a friendship to someone you don't know or don't want to know

It happened to me and what making it worst was that person was in my black list

True Winbert, but you dont have to accept that request, also Facebook has Privacy settings you use, as to who can see your postings.

Although you get many friend requests [Roll Eyes]

I generally ignore them unless it is someone I know in real life, or someone who has the same interests. In the end its up to you, how you use it and of course be carefull as to what you do post.

There might be some downsides but in general its been a very positive experence. Just today I posted a photo I took of the moon last night, only to get a reply from my niece in the north of Scotland, saying that we might be thousands of miles apart but her family were themseves looking at the moon as well, as up in the highlands it was looking spectacular.

Also some very interesting Pages, one of which included a photo of a garage near Glasgow I once worked at back in 1972-73. After I made a comment on it, another person came on and he remembered me, when he was there as an apprentice. He new I had immigrated to NZ in 1973 and wondered how I had got on, as according to him I was one of the good guys he had worked with...It was a delight to then share some correspondence of the past and that was through Facebook.

Graham, what happened to me was suddenly this black-listed friend received a friend request from me. And he accepted the request. So we were "friends" for a minute before I unfriended her. [Big Grin]

I found in FB community that this thing happened to many people. FB did not change this feature and we cannot set it off too.

I have never been on Facebook ... for many reasons.
Meanwhile I am more happy about it than before...
I can call or write to my friends without being afraid of missing something

I've been very careful what I put on Facebook and send or accept friend requests only from people that I have knowledge of - friends, relatives, former classmates, people from my church, etc.

And the rest I ignore. Sure, it may be a shallow sort of relationship, but at least it's made it possible for me to stay in touch at least a little bit with people I'd otherwise have zero contact with or knowledge of. And there are some very encouraging and uplifting posts that people put out there, and anyone who is regularly abusive or repugnant gets blocked.

So what about the data mining? Well, if you think Google is any better, I've got news for you. You need to know how to turn off features you don't need and stay signed out of Google accounts when you're browsing casually, etc.

Of course, your mileage may vary, but FB has gets 7/10 stars from me.

I finally pulled the plug on FB (after much hand-wringing) while running the Mark Zuckerberg hearing on C-SPAN. The fact that FB harvested millions of users' FB activity for their profit gave me a taste of what it must have been like to be African-American during the slavery era, where my identity has become a product for sale to benefit someone else. I've never felt good about FB; it made me feel like I was at some sweaty fern bar. That feeling was confirmed when I saw The Social Media and learned that FB had its origin in an infantile move by Zuckerberg to damage his ex-girlfriend's reputation. Out of those ashes, FB emerged as a behemoth that I've finally freed myself from. As well as LinkedIn, Pinterest, Instagram, Twitter...put another way, I've yet to see a filmmaker of any stature with a social media presence. For this reason, I'm dependent more than ever on forums like this to keep me informed.

The one thing that gives me a "pause" on facebook is that, in the fine print, facebook has the right to use anything you put up there, which includes pictures of family/friends ect, without you're permission ...

... so, I rarely put up anything that I

a. don't want seen, (well though people do it all the time, it's pretty darned stupid).

b. no pics of kids/wife.
