It must be around the 80s where a friend of mine put this wonderful film on at a convention. Sadly years later due to health reasons, he was forced to sell everything. I went across to his place and by that time, just about everything had already gone. The person who selling everything on behalf, told me one of the few films still left, was a nature film about some bird and a marsh.

Anyway that had me thinking, was it "The Snow Goose" on the chance it was I bought it. Sure enough it was "The Snow Goose" with a complete running time of about 50 minutes. The 16mm print had no splices, and little if any scratches, a very nice print to run through the projector.

Over the last 20 years that I have had it, its now fading, what has surprised me over the years, is that the film was never allowed to be released in VHS or DVD. To date I don't think that has changed, which is a real shame for the fans of the film out there.

Starring Jenny Agutter and Richard Harris "The Snow Goose" was released in 1971.

Here is hoping that one day the fans will get to watch this wonderful film fully restored.

Here is a short you-tube video from the other night. The quality of the up load is not that great, but it gives you an idea...

The short running time was for a one hour slot on commercial TV.

Thanks Larry and Maurice

The problem is the quality of the recordings, as the one Maurice mentions states..."Very old Film...Watchable but not perfect"

My understanding is that unfortunately this film was never to be legally made available for commercial sale on VHS or DVD. The only ones out there are poor quality copies. What I have read, fans have been asking for a release for years but due to legal reasons its not to be [Frown]

It seems that's the same for another early Jenny Agutter film, "I Start Counting". Whns it was shown at the BFI NFT2 a few years ago it was said to be possibly the last print available and rights problems were the reason it was not available on DVD though they were trying. (Private conversation with a BFI man who was introducing the showing not during public Q&A session). I have the trailer on 35mm that I bought at a BFCC for £1 and offered it to them if they get the rights.

Jenny is a lovely lady, she was there and not only spoke in the auditorium, but stayed and chatted in the foyer. She had presented the prizes for the Movie Maker 10 Best many years before, but had forgotten it.

Thanks for that Brian

I am pretty sure I had read somewhere a few years ago that Jenny Agutter had attended a screening of "The Snow Goose" at the BFI "correct me if I am wrong". Its great you have that trailer and offered it to them if they could obtain the rights of your film. Even this fading 16mm print could be given a professional restored transfer, as apart from the degree of fade the physical condition of the print is very good.
