£1299 for a rather stupid piece of video equipment masquerading as a film projector.
Probably for a person who has everything and needs a talking point for visitors.

I enjoy video projection, but I'm the first to admit there's something missing compared to projecting film. Maybe this is just an attempt to fake it!

I get the impression the "reels" are stationary...for 1300 bucks you'd think they'd at least go that far.

(I stand corrected: "When playing audio and video the rotary tables are rotating at a constant speed".)

A funny detail is the last picture at the offer:
the shadow of the girl standing in front of the screen can not be made by the projection of the offered machine. The angle makes no sense.

Neither a good video projector nor a working film projector. An expensive piece of junk for the person who has no appreciation of the 'reel' thing. [Frown]

Its a fake picture Oliver, designed to give the unwary buyer the impression of a big bright high quality picture.

It’s cool looking but it looks like a camera with reels/spools attached. At least they are not taking real projectors and turning them into video units....although there are a lot of them at flea markets and in closets.

It is a bizarre thing and I wouldn't want one but I thought it was worth posting. The oddest part is perhaps the text which is obviously a poor translation from Chinese. The description of the '1895' screening of the famous 'train leaving the station' film has a way too graphic description of how the train might affect the audience. Weird.

OK it's not perfect but I'm sure an enterprising Forum member will find a way to make some modifications, turning it into the world's first dual gauge video + 8mm projector!

Well it's a weird machine, looks like a camera on one side and more like a projector on the other. If you have to do this sort of thing, the 're-gutting' of a real cine projector would be much more authentic. Something big enough to house a small high quality video projector. Maybe an Elmo GS1200 with a small Epson inside? At least the outside would be very impressive! [Big Grin]

Paul - I take your point but I suspect the purchasers of this oddity would think that a GS1200 would look too modern to convey the retro aesthetics they are seeking!

I was also reminded of the TV lookalike super 8 machines like the Eumig R 2000. Kind of in reverse... one technology disguised as another.

-like the Kodak Moviedeck: a Super-8 machine trying to masquerade as a slide projector.

(I guess slides were still cool back then...)

Kodak had some strange ideas in the early days of Super 8. They didn't seem to want their new projectors to look like projectors.

I hate that fake wood veneer finish on the 70's Kodak super 8 equipment - it looks so cheesy.
