Hi It's me again, a recent convert to 9.5. I've just got my hands on a gem of a Gem, only problem is the 2 core rubber cable is perished and so I can't plug it into the mains. Has anyone ever attempted to rewire one of these machines? I'd welcome any info on how to tackle the job. MIKE

i have flipped and flopped many of my cables and generally have found that any cable that fits should work since it isn't like newer cables that may have a little transformer attached, if the cable is thrashed as it comes away from the machine open it up otherwise i would just attach the new cable to whatever can be salvaged and make sure to connect the ground to ground / hot to hot.. if you need help with opening it up i have lots of little articles of gem modifications i could find one for you...here's a pic of mine, without film though as i usualy use my spectos

Thanks Dino, my Gem is exactly the same colour as yours, it justs needs a good clean. Any info/articles you have would be most welcome,I don't want to risk doing any damage. Do you need my email address to send the info or should it be done via the forum. As a newcomer I don't know what's the correct way to go about these things.MIKE

Paul, yes it runs really well, I just hate the design of the film path, because a few bad sprockets and it is scraping against the lamphouse. This probably wasn't much of a problem when released since films were new and not generally shrunken, but nowadays many of them are. Iuse my Specto because I was able to add a small roller underneath the gate/lens housing to prevent any bad sprockets eliminating the loop, which has definitely come in handy, and the lamphouse allowed for a quick and easy halogen mod so I can shoot it on the same size screen as 16mm when I do my public screenings...but in the looks category Gem wins out over the Specto.....barely [Wink]
