This lens has Specto f1.6 on it, the rear end is different to two others I have, which projector/gauge would it have been originally issued it with ?

It will fit any of the old Specto projectors and will probably be ok for all guages - STD 8, 9.5 and 16mm. Depending on the size of the rear glass.
You have a Specto I believe, so why not try it.

The traditional shape Specto projectors were made for three separate gauges, 8mm, 9.5mm and 16mm, (and dual-gauge models), therefore they also had three different focal lengths to match.
Their lenses were, 1", 1.5", and 2".

Which gauge do you think it was intended for Maurice/Terry ?
The back lens is only 9mm, I just tried it with 9.5 & it gave a bigger picture which somewhat surprised me although I can't imagine it will be any good for 16mm

1" lens was for 8mm.
1.5" lens was for 9.5mm.
2" lens was for 16mm.
All three on each gauge would produce the same size picture.

What focal length is the lens which you show?

I too have Specto projectors,a 9.5mm and a Standard 8mm and they look identical apart from the gate etc.
I tried using my 8mm lens in my 9.5mm and it did give me a much bigger picture,but to me,it wasn't as sharp,so I put it back in my 8mm.
That info was probably "old news" haha

It looks like the one you have is a 1" which does give a bigger picture and I use it for 9.5mm because of that and I find it gives good definition too. I have also used it on a Bell&Howell 1698 16mm projector (with a sleeve) and it gives a nice big picture but you do suffer a little vignetting because the rear glass is too small for 16mm.

Yes, it has 1" engraved on it, my other two are 1/½" A Taylor Hobson f.1.9 and the other one reads as Dallmeyer 387287 F=1/½".

The 1" lens is about 1/2" longer than the others

The 1" lens is really for a standard 8 projector, but will give you a larger picture than the 1.5" lens usually supplied with the 9.5mm model.
