I have an Elmo GS 1200 projector. I can not get the Optical sound exciter lamp to come on even when I switch to "Optical" it stays dark. I bought a back up bulb and the same problem occurred. I dont have any optical sound films so I'm not too worried. Do you need to play an optical film to have the bulb come on?

Hi Tom, This sounds like one for Kevin ("Mr Elmo"). I can tell you that the exciter lamp should turn on when the sound is switched to optical, whether there is film in the projector or not.

Tom,
Paul is right about that. If you can get a test meter, measure the voltage across the terminal to see if you are getting any power. I am not sure if the optical lamp is fused but it might be in which case that is the next place to look Tony
