Hi all,

I am new to this forum and am in need of some technical help.

I was recently given boxes of 35mm slides and 8mm reels along with projectors to watch this stuff. I am hoping to transfer it all to DVD eventually. The problem I am having is getting the Kodak Moviedeck to work. It worked for a few reels and now all of a sudden it will not stay onthe run/feed position of the selector. Every time I try to select the run/feed position it jumps to rewind automatically. I found cleaning instruction on this inside of the bottom cover and it shows how to remove pieces of film with a pipe cleaner, yet when I tried there were no pieces of film in there.

Any ideas ???

Bad rubber pieces?

Anyone here actually have or use a Moviedeck?

Bill, you may want to be looking on Ebay for a replacement. Others here can give advice for what to look for, and the whole thing including shipping should come out to $50-70, which would be less than a repair on the Moviedeck.

This was a common problem with the Moviedeck. These were very poorly constructed machines. Not much you can do about it. I suggest getting a good projector that goes from reel to reel.

Thanks guys.. Pretty much what I thought. I did also receive with all the reels and slides a Bolex 18-5 projector. This looks like a much nicer machine, however I don't know if it works, if the bulb works, etc... because it didn't come with a power cord. i could only source one place on-line to get a cord, but the website says the guy is on vacation for the summer and he hasn't replied to my e-mail [Frown]

i contacted Bolex direct and they want $ 90.00 US for a replacement and they want to send cash. Not going that route. I'll keep looking.

Not a standard appliance cord?

Anyone want to gander some suggestions for best value in a used projector on Ebay?

The Bolex 18-5 uses an ordinary 2-prong non polarized appliance cord-- the original has a hard black plastic cap that inserts tightly into a closely fitted AC plug. There's also some sort of extension receptacle right next to it-- (for lights?)

The cord is like an old percolator appliance cord but for regular bladed forks, not round. It should be easy to find-- just something small enough to fit.

I'm not sure about Radio Shack-- it's more of an old appliance cord, non-polarized. Maybe even Goodwill? The only trick is that the plug has got to fit within the confined space-- it reminds me of those plastic-knobbed cords you used to find on old percolators, the ones that were designed to never come loose. I'd take the projector with me when looking-- the plug's only about 1/2" by 1" or so.
