At work we use a German brand of power transistor (big, ugly power transistors: 1700V, 800A!!!) called "Eupec". Now for several years I've been pronouncing this name "Youpec" just like "Europe" is pronounced "Yourup"

Recently I found out that this name is really pronounced "Oypec"...Like "Oyster"!

So is what I've been calling "Youmig" really supposed to be "Oymig"?

I seem to recall TV commercials from when I was a kid for the "Youmig Nautica”, but how is it actually pronounced in "Oyrup"???

(.....Oy!)

-another reason to go Elmo, but who knows how that is actually pronounced!

you are right, in youropean countries with german language Youmigs are Oymigs and Youpecs are Oypecs.

Eu've learned something today!

You would think I'd have learned more when we spent two weeks visiting with my family in Wiesloch, but they speak flawless, British English! (They "loffed" at our "New Yawk" accents!)

I have a couple of Eumig produced films which were used for advertising and they themselves pronounce it as "UMIG"
