Is it unusual to order a "Brand New Derann Print" from Dave Thomas and receive a "Red Fox Enterprises" print with a date of May 23, 1985 on the leader? And a "Red Fox Enterprises" label on the box? Just wondering.

The cartoon is in great condition, probably unplayed, and the box looks new. I read somewhere here that Derann got some Red Fox negatives when Red Fox folded. Maybe this is just a new print from a 1985 Red Fox negative? Can anyone here enlighten me?

I suspect that it's just a print made from a negative that Derann got from Red Fox.

Check the date code on the stock itself (if it's Eastman or Fuji) - not much you can find out if it's agfa.

John,
I actually ordered a brand new Tom & Jerry cartoon directly from Derann that came in a Red Fox box, so it does happen since, as you mentioned, they acquired their negatives and labels.

Here's Dave's response to my inquiry, just received:

Hello! Thanks for your inquiry! Yes, this is a brand new Derann print just received from them that was special printed for us. It is not a 24 year old print. Derann continues to use Red Fox Films labels which date back 20 some years, for what ever reason, and they certainly could confirm that it is a brand new lab-fresh print if you cared to in inquire. By the way, for your information, Derann no longer shrink-wraps their boxes. Thanks and best wishes, DAVE THOMAS

I'm not arguing with what has been said, but I find it astonishing as it doesn't apply to any Derann prints I've ever bought - even if they are re-releases of Red Fox films, and I've never seen these box lables on prints being sold at conventions or open days. The only new film I got from Derann in Red Fox box was an import around 1984, when they were still in business and sold a few prints via Derann.
