For me, it does not matter for the spelling, I translate by google ... [Smile] I still do not master English unfortunately.

Here are some pictures of my tests:
I encountered some adjustment difficulties by putting back the back cover (screws and notches). I started my design again but this time it's fine.
I still have to design a cable tie with a small screw (the original one is a bit big). for the pulley, I tried several 3D Filaments, but I have wobbles (small waves on the vertical

I have to change the firmware on my printer with all the hardware changes I'm doing. the Chinese manufacturer (Wanhao) must to provide me with the source code this weekend, but I'm still waiting for it.
if I can not get it fast enough, I'll go through an open firmware that I'll modify myself...

And hopefully I'll be able to send you the 3D parts as early as possible, I hope during the next week.
I also put small brass inserts to have easier to fix the pulley on the cabestan motor. It's not easy because it's very small (see the pictures).

 -

 -

For the front cover, it's thinking. I started a little design (just the first part of the top) but I will have to change when everything will be functional.

 -

I will try to design a small magnetic door to protect the frame of the film from the outside light. Still a little work.

what would have been good is also to use the USb back hole to pass the USB cable of the camera to fully close the hood. Thinking !

It's not over yet but it's getting good ! [Smile]

"Thank You" the three of you for the advancement you have made since I first purchased my Wolverine in 2017.I have followed you with eager eyes ,but unfortunately could not add anything that would improve the Wolverine in any way .I am sure when Mike completes his final video I will have a go at upgrading my Wolverine as I am sure many silent viewers will do the same. "Thank You" once again

Kamel you are very kind to offer to send me parts that you are printing.

I don't think you will need to send me anything as the only part I would need would be the lens mount.

I am not intending to go with the sprocket/capstan as you are.

If the factory lens mount will work, I would be happy to buy one, but if your lens mount is better, I would be grateful for one of those.

I am going to invent a cover to protect the complete machine and film reels, so your printed 3D covers won't be needed.

I am most grateful for your kindness.

That sprocket/capstan looks really cool!

I imagine testing different filaments must be very time consuming. The work you are doing is amazing.

Malcolm John Toye

You raise a very good point about other woVlerine users who might want to try this at home.

The biggest problem would be to find a way to produce the circuit board that Stan has designed.

Other than that it would be easy to make a shopping list of the other components that go on to the board.

From the pictures I am seeing that equates to a few resistors, a chip, what looks like a transistor, a diode and some connectors and switches and connecting wire.

Add to that the camera, lens and lens mount.

It would be quite a task for someone who does not have the technical skills to solder those components to the board, let alone wire it together.

Once I begin my mod I will do a video and step by step written guide and high quality still images to detail what is involved.

There is no reason in the future if I can help any UK users to achieve this, I will.

The problem would be getting a hold of the circuit board, once that is overcome;

I would be happy for someone to send me the parts and I would solder it together for them and return it for a very small fee, but they would then have to complete the mod on thier own using my video as a guide.

I consider myself incredibly lucky that Stan has offered to send me a fully soldered board so I have a duty to try and help UK users if I can.

Ballpark costs would be in the region of £250 I would think, including camera lens and mount, plus the other components to go on the circuit board.

The cost of the board is an unknown or even if it could be available in the UK.

The camera and lens, lens mount alone are £180 or there abouts.

Perhaps when things are finalised Stan could compile a complete list of every component on the board so we can cost it up in uk prices.

That said, I am not sure how the circuit board could be made available, that would be a question for Stan.

Perhaps it is possible to order one from the people who made them for him.

Before this mod of Stans' came about I was planning to have just my Navy footage scanned by a professional house, I worked out that would cost around £300 so this mod will not only make it cheaper, but in time, will allow me to scan films for other people to a much higher quality than before.

Kamel that would be very kind, the film guides would be very sensible to have, so thank you for thinking of that.

I will send you a postal address in a message.

I have just come to the end of a long summer holiday, I am about to return to University and I don't think I will have time to sit down to do this mod until at least October, but more likely my Christmas holiday, so there is no hurry.

First semester at University is going to be Non Stop....

I am lucky if I get a Sunday afternoon to myself after spending Saturday doing the chores, shopping and housekeeping.

In that time I can get the camera and lens and anything else I am going to need, so I am ready to go when I have some time.

Thank You so much.

That is pretty amazing work that you are doing Kamel with 3D printing. Hope you get your printer in working with the latest mod.
Mike, I am getting the boards done in China.
I pay $7.50 for 5 boards and $23.50 freight.
I can send you the details via email how to order the boards. You may save some cost by consolidating the order for a number of users.
I already have the parts list auto-generated by the PCB tool but will have to go through it one more time. Possibly this weekend.

As far as assembly goes, here are my thoughts:

You can do your own soldering and assembly but there is a tricky SMD connector that requires SMD soldering experience.
 -

Another issue is the MSP430 controller that has to be programmed. I do that here. Not a big deal but if you want to do it you will need a small programming board. Again not a big deal but wanted to mention it.

There is an SMD 3.3V regulator that requires SMD soldering but that one in pretty easy.

The rest of the components are pretty easy but need a fine soldering iron tip.

Small qty boards I can do here possibly. If there is a larger demand then we will have to go with the assembly service. I already contacted one of the local companies here.

I am pretty flexible any which way you want to go. Just let me know.

Yet another possibility. Pre-populate the boards with tricky parts and you and/or end users do your own soldering and test.

Thank you very much Stan for these explanations.

I will be very interested in your work if you share it in open source, which is really very generous of you !

A very short time ago I bought myself a msp430g2 Launchpad card because I would like to program to modify my 3D printer and at the same time to learn Energia-CCS/Msp430G2.
I learn too Eagle and sparkdesignPCB software...
It's not easy, but I really like learning.

Are all your files on google drive up to date with the latest versions?...
For welds, actually it takes a little practice where the interest of ordering several cards for possible failures.
I am a beginner in this sector but I like to learn.
And do it yourself is so rewarding...

Stan Thank you for clearing up a few points.

It would appear one or two people might want to try this mod so this initial post explaining how things go together is a great help.

At this stage I was just putting a couple of thoughts out there as an initial response to Malcolm John Toye post.

I know for a fact if I was a reader in this thread I would certainly be interested in modding my scanner.

The reality of it is not easy by any means, but perhaps in the future it is something we can work towards together.

I am good with a fine tip and solder, I have been soldering for 45 years, audio patchbays are a specialty of mine....

But as you rightly point out, some elements do require specialist help and knowledge.

There is certainly no rush for anything anytime soon, but it is clear readers of this 32 page thread must be sitting back in amazement and wondering if they may be able to do this one day, and who wouldn't blame them for that.

I feel very special, as I am sure Kamel does, at the prospect of being able to receive a board and knowledge from you in the near future.

I would do as much as I was able to then go on to help anyone else once I am up and running and know what's what.

I wouldn't know where to begin to program a MSP430 so that is something I can look forward to learning

I can solder like a pro......

Perhaps once Kamel and I are up and running we can create a thread in the forum early in 2020 to offer advice and perhaps some kind of online help to people interested in modding.

I will certainly create a new thread for my modding when the time comes and document every move for people to read about.

Stan is going down in film archive history. [Big Grin]

Stan will be very happy to know that his work will enable me to re scan my vintage Royal Navy films in top quality.

I have scanned a pile of veterans Navy film, I hope that in 2020, to have those veterans send me back thier Navy reels for another (free) scan.

I feel honored Mike. I still have to update the google drive with V6.
Also will update the MSP430 sw with the latest.
BOM needs cleaning up a bit.
I will send the boards to you guys as soon as the V6 are in + a few days for assembly.
Doing that slowly while watching the football game. The season started today.
As I promised it is all open source - no secrets - no hidden agenda [Smile]
Just updated EAGLE.zip with the V6.

The MSP430 sw is on the google drive in freq_gen2 folder. Drop this folder into your CCS workspace and compile it. Then you can flash the MSP430 using the launchpad.

I used this:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00HPLQS58/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

The standalone part is:
MSP430G2231IN14 from Mouser.

Hi all
I've been following this thread for a while now after posting last year about the problems I has with my Winait scanner. If the upgrades you guys are doing get to the point of producing a kit for user modification I would be very interested in purchasing one.
Just thought I'd let you know in case you needed to know numbers of people interested in order to finalise costs etc.

Updated the BOM.

Simon has a good point. Consolidating the orders could save money.

I would suggest waiting until both Kamel and I have done our mods before we bring others in to the modding arena.

I will document my process so demonstrate what is actually going to happen.

I imagine Kamel will do something similar, altho his mod will be different to mine.

We could think about opening a new thread in the forum which will bring people together that are only interested in modding, and then we can find out demand and how we might be able to help other woVlerine fanatics
[Smile]

It is certainly a good few months away until this mod 'could' be made available.

A thread just for those interested in the mod would consolidate that aspect of things rather than confuse this thread.

Suggestions welcome.

Stan, I have just seen your pm about the PCB
I did try to upload a file to the website, but I can't reply again to the pm to explain, until you reply.
No worries, no hurry.

A modding thread in the near future it is then, to consolidate interest

V6 centering is pretty close to the center:
https://photos.app.goo.gl/E4iQFZexzKiP3qhCA
It does not have to be dead on but if really needed in the dead center opening up the mounting holes a tad will do the trick.
I will leave mine as is.
The board for Kamel is ready.
